Westgate

Westgate is a thiving port town once known as a pirate den. Although those in charge have hardly changed, the city itself has become more open to outsiders in recent years, due to a clear effort by the town's ruler, King Verovan Lorndessar.

Westgate controls most of the Dragon Coast through their powerful navy, raiding any trade ship freely if it does not have the proper passage papers. On land, all of Westate's western trade into the content must go through Elversult, a fact that vexes King Verovan to no end.

Government

Although the rulers of the small city call themselves King, in reality they are a dynasty of pirate kings and queens rather than what most would consider "proper" royalty.

Defences

The city is well defended from the sea, complete with a small fleet of ships stationed for defense as well as two forts armed with a mixture of cannons and spellcasters. Inside the city, they have a relatively meager defense force of 2,000 policing the streets officially. However, the rulers of the city have a strong grip on the thieves guild as well as the local black market traders, so in reality many of the permanent residents in the city are effectively defenders as well.
