Proskur (proʊskʌr/ PROSS-kurr)
Proskur, is a trading city in the Stormlands, that was located North of the kingdom's borders, in the Dragon Coast region of the Eastern Heartlands. While it had become a place known for honest and fair trade, it had a long-standing history of thieves' guilds that operated out in the open, and was even a haven for the unscrupulous Red Wizards. However with the ascension of King Stannis to the throne of the Stormlands these activates and groups began to be targeted by the law.
Geography
The city was located south of the Bridge of Fallen Men and roughly equidistant between the southern tips of the Sunset Mountains and the Storm Horn Mountains. The High Road connected the city with Easting to the southwest and High Horn far to the north, while the Overmoor Trail connected it to the capital Elversult to the southeast.
To the northwest of Proskur was located the fortification of Stormhawk Keep, used to watch for possible Cormyr incursions.
Flora & fauna
The city lent its name to the roouddan, a vegetable colloquially known as the "red turnip of Proskur".
Government
Proskur was led by a merchant council, at the head of this Council is House Nightsong who many considered to be the true rulers of Proskur. The council consisted of people elected by the people albeit at the approval of the controlling House. These people, although good and honest, were former oft corrupt and allowed illicit substances to be traded within their city in return for monetary rewards.
Law & Order
Thieves and swindlers had a easy time in Proskur due to the illcit dealings of the Proskur council, however in late 1491 DR, King Stannis pushed hard down on the actions of criminals leading to once complicit authorities to now apprehend such folk. Defense The city maintained a city guard force and a detachment of the Maces to deal with corruption. The local Stormhawk Keep was also stocked with military soliders who could lend a hand if greater assistance was needed by the city. Trade
Circa the mid–14th century DR, a variety of exotic and useful items and substances could be found among the merchants of Proskur. The heart, eyes, and brains of catoblepas were imported from the Farsea Marshes to be sold in Proskur. Around that same time, a small merchant company in the city dispatched trade caravans leaded up with maxoris, a preservative used as an alternative to salt and spices.
Proskur was one of the stops along the trade route of the Thousandheads Trading Coster. History Since its founding, Proskur was an independent trade city with a historical associated with mercantile groups and thieves guild.
In the Year of the Banner, 1368 DR, foreign agents of Thay formed their enclave in the city of Proskur. However they were expelled and hunted down in 1406 DR The city was annexed by the increasingly-powerful Cormyr in the Year of the Golden Mask, 1405 DR however, as the Kingdom of the Purple Dragon expanded its hold over much of the lands south of the Dragonmere. In the years that followed dissent amongst the southern settlements increased and despite Proskur's postive change as now a respectable place of just laws and honest trade, the want of their own southern kingdom was stronger, and such House Nightsong declared and took part in the Cherellion Rebellion with the final battle of the war occurring just north of the Bridge of the Fallen Men.
