Amokel

Amokel is a valuable but dangerous mineral-like substance. Amokel exists both in the Material Plane and in the Feywild and somehow bridges the gap between them. Raw Amokel glows a faint red, but when refined emits a violet radiance. It is highly coveted in many of the Sky City societies, as the mineral powers their cities and technological advancements.

Properties

Material Characteristics

Raw Amokel resembles Red Jasper, except it emits a red glow.

Physical & Chemical Properties

Warm to the touch. Physical contact with raw Amokel will cause serious injury as the mineral is extremely volatile unprocessed.

Geology & Geography

Most commonly found in the undersides of the various sky cities as residual energies from the Weave that raised them had crystallized into forms. Can also be found in exposed veins on the surface of the world as the increased energies from the Calamity had cause a massive surge in Amokel veins to appear.

Origin & Source

It originates from the Feywild and had connected to the Material Plane when the Titans rose and the various mages fought to save the cities causing condensed magical energy ruptures across the world. Any further information is unknown and Amokel is under much study, scrutiny, and analysis.

History & Usage

Everyday use

There are many uses of refined Amokel, some of which are the properties of legend
  • Healing: Being a substance described as essentially life itself, the key aspect of Amokel seems to be its ability to heal grievous injury and enable longevity.
  • Ability Enhancement: Amokel can be turned into a liquid and such potions are used to aid in the casting of especially taxing spells, for a short time granting a mage far greater power than the mage normally wields.
  • Enchantment: Blacksmiths use the substance to infuse their metals with the magic Amokel holds, creating weapons and armor wholly unique to Sky society.
  • Extended Life: It is said that prolonged exposure and ingestion of liquid Amokel can extend one's life well beyond their years. Though this is widely regarded as a fairy tail, it is still sought after by adventurers and scholars alike.

Cultural Significance and Usage

The mineral is used in nearly everything amongst the sky cities and many trading companies have developed around the item causing deep political and social ramifications as an industry sprung up around it. Some religious fanatics bathe themselves in liquid Amokel to absorb the essence of magic it holds believing it is sent from a new God, Amo. This irreversibly dyes their skin a dark red color, differentiating them from the rest of the populace and denoting them as Amonites.

Refinement

Raw Amokel must be refined in order to be used in any fashion. The process is a highly guarded secret by the Violet Smiths.

Hazards

Extended exposure and infusion of Amokel has some debalitating effects. Infusion with a living being seems to cause emaciation and gradual insanity of the user, causing radical changes in personality. The mental corruption can also possibly passed to the victim's child.

Environmental Impact

On the surface once a vein is depleted, surrounding plant life withers and dies. However, within the sky cities, due to the constant magical energies being in use replenishes depleted veins over time causing them to grow. many of the cities, like New Neverwinter, will periodically chisel off large swaths of the material to prevent it from growing out of control allowing it to plummet to the land below. Others, like Horizon, will allow the material to grow with impunity using it to charge and power the magic of the place itself at the expense of usable area for the populace.

If think Mokel would sound better. "I found some Mokel." "Raw Mokel, a good amount." "This Mokel-infused sword has an edge like no other."
