Session 33: All Hell Broke Loose Report

General Summary

After a short and solemn celebration in the tunnels below High Hall, the party started laying down preparations for their diplomatic mission. It had been decided, in accordance with acting High Overseer Grand Duke Ulder Ravengard and acting secretary Wobaer Triest that the adventurers would make their way back with the supplies that were promised to the leader of Shiarra's Market. They would deliver the supplies to their quartermaster, and propose an agreement of non-agression between the two factions. But first, they had to figure out how to get there...    With two carts full of water barrels, blanket rolls, as well as a few boxes of medicine, the four adventurers went on their way to cross the ravine separating the two sides of Elturel, Leo choosing to stay behind to see if he could cultivate some vegetables in the Maze for the long term, if necessary. Through the High District and circling past Westerly, they came to a halt in front of the ruined remains of Torm's Sword, the lone bridge spanning the chasm. Not able to cross the canyon without leaving the supplies behind, the party had a long dispute about how to proceed.    It was in the middle of that discussion that Caja , bored with hearing the same risks and countermeasures over and over again, walked away from the carts and made a stroll along the edge of the ravine, eventually happening upon a preoccupied deep gnome who was tinkering away at a strange contraption not unlike one of the arcane cannons that the party had secured from the East Docks some time before. Before long, Caja had made fast friends with the gnome, and decided to introduce them to everybody else.    The gnome revealed themselves to be working on a 'launched aerial propulsion' device, designed to reach the other side of the city without having to pay the devils' toll. When asked, Caja was quick to volunteer as a test subject, and the tinkerer responded by instructing the barbarian exactly how to mount the strange apparatus, and how to behave in the air. When the cannon fired in a puff of white smoke and arcane shimmer, it seemed  for a moment as if Caja would make it all the way across. However, as quickly as she went up in the cannonball, it now started to descend. Quick thinking by Ronaldus Swanstone and Fenrir managed to stop the ball and its occupant from landing in the river Styx below, and the artificer gnome was very apologetic about the situation, though equally excited to call the first test flight a failure.    While contemplating their next move, the gnome attributed that they could replicate the effect of Ron's boots of flying and apply the same effect on the carts full of supplies, and with the party's permission, started to do so. A couple of hours later, the work was completed, and the gnome happily presented the party with two flying carts, as well as a glove that could be used to control their flight. After getting used to the controls, the party went across to the other side, once again meeting with the devils they had struck a deal with before, and after a quick catch-up, the heroes advanced towards Shiarra's Market.
