Cult of the Dead Three

Structure

The Cult actually consists of three separate religious cults who historically have always worked together. They are the cultists of Bane, Bhaal, and Myrkul, the Dead Three gods. They operate independently, but the cult leaders regularly streamline the organization and they do not mind working together as long as there is a clear goal in mind. Without a goal, the cultists quickly grow agressive toward each other instead.    The Cult of Bane in Baldur's Gate is currently led by an Iron Consul named Yignath, a brute who commands a small army of Fists as well as several Black Gauntlets (as the clergy of Bane calls themselves).    Myrkul's followers answer to a Master of Sould called Remigio, a man in his early forties who looks much older, and who has a firm grasp of the arcane arts. He recently came to power after the death of Flennis, who was dispatched by a party of adventurers in the Dungeon of the Dead Three.    Bhaal's minions operate mostly on their own, but a Death's Head by the name of Vaaz is their unofficial leader. Easily the most cunning and intimidating of the three, Vaaz also sees himself as the de facto leader of the entire Cult of the Dead Three cell in Baldur's Gate. Vaaz was recently taken out by the same adventurers who killed Flennis, however, and nobody has risen yet to take his place.

Culture

The Cult of the Dead Three share an obsession with death following the footsteps of their founders. Fists of Bane can regularly be seen bullying others, training to defy death, or studying combat tactics. Cultists of Myrkul study the art of necromancy, taking an interest in the dead themselves. Bhaal and his followers see themselves as artists, thinking of creative ways in which to kill others. They care not for the living or the dead, only for themselves.

Public Agenda

The goals of the cult are as sensitive to change as their leadership, with Black Gauntlets preferring to rule over cities, fight glorious wars, or just generally bullying others into submission. Followers of Bhaal tend to be more chaotic and diverse in their motivation; some are curious to see just how much chaos they can spread and get away with it, whereas others organize for huge killing sprees across cities. Myrkulites tend to be the most enigmatic leaders, biding their time and dedicating a lot of their time to their studies. Usually, a cell of cultists finds a charismatic Reaper of Bhaal or an Iron Consul as their leader.

Assets

Cult cells may organize in buildings they took from people they have kidnapped or killed, taking their wealth in the process. They may not go unnoticed for very long unless there is a very strong leader present who is able to quell the thirst for blood of the more fanatic cultists. Sometimes, aristocrats take to the cult for certain services, be they an assassin for hire, access to the secrets of necromancy, or the allegiance of a mercenary company.
