The Laws of Faerûn Falls To Shadow

Magic is a highly used aspect in the day to day life of this world while also having gods who are much involved in the world and are often the ones bestowing magic upon followers.

Cosmology

In the lore, Toril is part of a multiverse known as the Great Wheel, with various planes of existence interconnected. The god Ao, a powerful and enigmatic deity, created the multiverse and established the rules governing the gods and their interactions.
According to the Dawn War myth, Ao created the primordial beings, powerful elemental forces. These primordials clashed with the gods in a conflict known as the Dawn War. The aftermath of this war shaped the multiverse, and during this time, the world of Toril was formed.
The primordial Abeir and the deity Ao played crucial roles in Toril's creation. Ao separated Abeir and Toril, creating two distinct worlds. Toril became the home to various races, civilizations, and deities, while Abeir became another world within the D&D cosmology.

Principal Geography & Features

Toril's topography is incredibly diverse, featuring a wide range of landscapes and environments.   The Heartlands: Located in the central part of the continent of Faerûn, the Heartlands are known for their fertile plains and bustling trade cities. Waterdeep, one of the most iconic cities in the Forgotten Realms, is situated here.   The Sword Coast: Stretching along the western edge of Faerûn, the Sword Coast is characterized by its rugged cliffs, forests, and numerous ports and cities. It's a region ripe for exploration and intrigue.   The Dalelands: East of the Sword Coast, the Dalelands are known for their independent city-states and picturesque landscapes. This region often serves as a setting for heroic adventures.   The Anauroch Desert: Once a fertile land, the Anauroch became a vast desert after the fall of the ancient Netherese empire. It's a harsh and unforgiving environment with remnants of powerful magic scattered across the sands.   The Underdark: Beneath the surface of Toril lies the Underdark, a vast and dangerous network of caverns and tunnels. Home to dark elves (Drow), mind flayers, and other monstrous creatures, the Underdark offers a unique and challenging setting for adventures.   The Moonshae Isles: Located to the west of the mainland, the Moonshae Isles are a group of islands known for their mystical and fey influences. Druids and magical creatures often inhabit these lands.   Chult: In the southern part of Faerûn, Chult is a jungle-filled peninsula known for its ancient ruins, dangerous wildlife, and the mysterious city of Mezro. It's also the setting for the Tomb of Annihilation adventure.   The Spine of the World: A massive mountain range that runs along the northern part of Faerûn, the Spine of the World is a harsh and inhospitable region with frozen tundras and treacherous peaks.   These are just a few examples, and Toril's topography is filled with countless other regions, each offering its own unique challenges and opportunities.
