Amphail

Settled at the base of the southern end Sword Mountains is the horse raising village of Amphail, named after Amphail the Just a early lord of Waterdeep with estates in the town. It was founded in 1129 DR on the first leg of the Long Road between Waterdeep and Mirabar as a rest stop for travelers.

It quickly gained an identity of its own as breeders of fine horses which were sold to Waterdeep and other settlements on the Long Road. The village is ruled over by a Lord Warder the current one of which is Briiathor Alougarr. But everyone knows the real power in the town is with the horse breeding families the most prominent of which are the Roaringhorn's. They are a Waterhaven noble family who own an estate in Amphail. The other most prominent houses are Amcathra, Ilzimmer, Jhansczil, and Tarm all Waterdhavan houses. Some other people have also taken to independent horse breeding, people like Rorth Baldasker, Ohm Oglyntyr, and Elraghona Selember. Although not breeders, the Eagleshield family made tack for the horses and operated a farm for the treatment of sick animals.

Other establishments in town are the Festhalls of Golaund Sester's, Hagala's Manyturrets, and Mother Gothal's. Whereas the taverns are The Gilded Satyr and The Stone Stallion. The village also has many other shops like Ammakyl Flowers and Foods, Blodhlar's Wares, Maver's Wood, Eagleshield Fine Horse Leathers, Elboar's Finest, Helga's Leatherworks, Fydor's Fish, and Imbryl's Cloaks.

The settlement has no guards of it's own but is protected by Waterdhavian guards supplied by the noble families. But the guards don't really see much use as bandits are uncommon this close to Waterdeep, they mostly protect from local animals.

The nearest body of water other than Spear Point Lake is Horse Pond, a pond in the northern end of town. It is said to contain the hidden entrance to the tomb of the Maiden King, who ruled the area a long time before the 13th century DR. Some adventurers entered the pond on several occasions and found nothing, but one band at least never returned.
