Session 6: The Village
General Summary
In Session 6, the party shifted focus from combat to exploration and resource gathering as they began to assess the scale of the restoration project for the village of Bastion, where Nymeria resides. With the knowledge that reviving the village was key to lifting the curse, the adventurers set out to explore the various buildings and gather supplies to help bring life back to the abandoned settlement.
The village, now crumbling and overgrown, posed a daunting task. The party took stock of the key locations they had seen before: Nymeria’s Cathedral, the Village Inn, the Blacksmith’s Forge, the Hunter’s Lodge, and other important structures. They realized how much effort would be required to restore the village and began gathering what supplies they could find, including food, materials for repairs, and anything that could aid them in rebuilding the homes and shops.
During their exploration, they came across the Healer’s Cottage, a building that, despite its dilapidated state, retained remnants of its former purpose. As they searched the cottage, they discovered a gilded skull resting on one of the dusty shelves. To their surprise, the skull was inhabited by a spirit of intellect named Babburious.
Babburious explained that he once belonged to a powerful witch who had lived in the village long ago. She had been killed when Strahd and his Red Bride attacked Bastion, but Babburious remained, bound to the skull and waiting for someone worthy to discover him.
Intrigued by Hader’s strength and resolve, Babburious formed a bond with him, offering to serve him in his endeavors. This new alliance provided Hader with a valuable companion—a knowledgeable and resourceful spirit that could assist in both magical matters and the practical challenges of restoring the village.
