Session 3: Durst Manor Part 2

General Summary

The third session saw the party unravel more of the dark secrets within the Durst manor, as they uncovered hidden passages and came face-to-face with the spirits still lingering in the house. The atmosphere remained thick with tension and dread as the mysteries surrounding Walter and the Durst family deepened.
The session began in the nursery, where the party interacted with the silent ghost of Klara, glimpsed through a large mirror. After some careful investigation, the party discovered a hidden passage behind the mirror, leading them to a long-forgotten part of the house—the attic.
In the attic, they found the ghostly forms of Rose and Thorn, the children they had encountered outside the manor. The spectral siblings revealed more about their tragic fate and agreed to help the party, providing them with crucial information about the location of their brother Walter, whom they believe can still be saved. Rose and Thorn possessed Saphira and Dorian, and led them to a secret passage that took them to the depths of the manor—the basement, where even darker secrets awaited.
In the basement, the party learned that it once served as the meeting place for a cult, led by Elisabeth Durst. This cult, dedicated to Strahd and a god of death, held sinister rituals and sacrifices, twisting the house’s very foundation. As the party ventured deeper into the basement’s shadowy halls, the air grew heavy with the weight of the souls sacrificed to feed the cult’s dark ambitions.
The session culminated in a tense cliffhanger when the party was ambushed by a group of ghouls—the deranged, undead remnants of the cultists who had lost their minds and humanity. These ghouls, driven by madness and bloodlust, descended upon the party just as they entered the cult’s lair, cutting the session short with a chilling confrontation still looming.
