Session 2: Durst Manor Part 1
General Summary
In the second session of the campaign, the party delved deeper into the mysterious and foreboding house they found themselves trapped in. What began as a cautious exploration soon revealed itself to be a twisted tale of family betrayal, dark rituals, and a lurking horror.
The session began with the party moving carefully through the rooms, ever alert for danger. Their caution was well-founded when they encountered an animated suit of armor, which launched a surprise attack. After a hard-fought battle, they managed to defeat the armor, but the encounter left them shaken and wary of what else the house might hold.
As they continued their exploration, the party uncovered letters, music, and vision, slowly piecing together the tragic and horrifying tale of the Durst family.
They learned that Elisabeth, the wife of Gustav Durst, had been driven to madness by the birth of Walter, the bastard son of the family maid. Elisabeth’s jealousy and fury boiled over, leading her to take a carving knife from the kitchen. In a fit of rage, she ambushed Gustav in their bedroom, brutally murdering him.
But Elisabeth’s bloodlust did not stop there. Consumed by the madness of betrayal, she went to her daughter Klara’s suite and murdered both Klara and her infant child. The tragedy stained the walls of the house, leaving behind echoes of its violent past.
As the party ventured deeper into the secrets of the house, they discovered that Elisabeth had performed a dark ritual using a mysterious shard, binding her son Walter to the house as a monstrous entity. This ritual twisted the very foundation of the manor, ensuring that Walter's fate was tied to the house's cursed legacy.
The session ends with Dorian speaking with Klara in the mirror, and opening a secret passage into the attic.
