Session 1: Into the Mists

General Summary

The first session of Curse of Strahd began with the characters waking in terrifying circumstances, scattered across the haunted land of Barovia.
Dorian awoke alone in a crypt, surrounded by the oppressive weight of death. Before he could gather his bearings, he was pursued by a crow-like undead creature through the dark corridors. Fleeing the horror, he managed to escape into the moonlight, only to find himself lost in the endless mists.
Dameion found himself in a burning house, flames licking at the walls around him. He was tormented by a shadowy creature that attempted to strangle him. Desperate, Dameion broke a window, leaping through to escape into the mist, narrowly avoiding a fiery death.
Hader awoke deep in the woods, where he was stalked by a massive, fearsome direwolf. Armed only with his wits and an elk skull, he managed to kill the beast in a brutal confrontation. After his victory, he wandered deeper into the woods, where fate would soon bring him to the others.
The three characters, separated by fear and isolation, eventually converged at a grim location—the Hangman’s Tree. There, hanging by her neck, they found Saphira, a half-turned vampire, still alive despite her condition. The party cut her down and chose to join forces, knowing they had a better chance of survival together than apart.
Wandering through the woods, they came across an abandoned village that parted the mists before them. In front of a large, foreboding manor, they encountered two children—Rose and Thorne—who tearfully told the group that a monster was in their house and had trapped their brother Walter inside. The party, driven by both a desire to help and the mysteries that surrounded them, entered the manor.
The doors, however, sealed shut behind them, trapping them inside.
