Session 13: Tarokka Reading

General Summary

The Vistani invited the party to join a Game of Stories, where each participant shared a tale—true or fabricated—while others guessed its veracity. Each party member recounted a piece of their past: Dameion’s surprising revelation of his childhood in a brothel captivated the crowd, blending raw honesty with subtle misdirection. Other camp members spun their own stories, ranging from heroic exploits to eerie folklore. Dameion’s knack for storytelling won him the game, and he was awarded a motley collection of trinkets, from tarnished baubles to curious oddities.
As the game concluded, the party slipped away to meet Madam Eva at the River Ivlis crossroads. En route, Boberous sensed they were being followed. The group swiftly confronted their tail, who appeared to be Elisa from the camp. She claimed concern for their midnight departure, suspecting nefarious intent. Skeptical, Hader tasked Boberous with escorting her back, but when Elisa flashed an unsettling smile, Boberous fled in terror. Her glamour shattered, revealing Ludmilla, the Red Witch, a Bride of Strahd. Poised to unleash her fire magic, Ludmilla was halted by Saphira, who reminded her of the party’s invitation to Strahd’s dinner. Reluctantly, Ludmilla conceded, warning of their host’s displeasure before vanishing in a blaze of magical flame.
Shaken but undeterred, the party reached the gallows at the River Ivlis crossroads. There, Madam Eva performed a Tarokka reading, her cards weaving a cryptic tapestry of their path forward. For a detailed breakdown of the reading, see the Tarokka Reading section in the World Codex.
Returning to the Vistani camp to rest for the night, the party settled in, but Hader’s restlessness took hold. Transforming into his werewolf form, he slipped into the wilderness to hunt. Dorian, wary of Hader’s unpredictable nature, shadowed him to ensure no harm came to the camp or its inhabitants. In the moonlight, Dorian witnessed Hader constructing a grotesque shrine of bones near the spot where Ludmilla had disappeared. The eerie display hinted at a disturbing shift in the werewolf’s mind, leaving Dorian uneasy about what darker impulses might be stirring within his companion.
