Faerun A land of wizards, warriors, and intrigue.

13 Flamerule 1373 the Year of Rogue Dragons

Created by

Spanning the planet Toril, Faerûn is a vast, diverse land of magic, adventure, and political intrigue, roughly analogous to medieval Earth but with a rich tapestry of fantastical elements. It stretches from the frozen wastes of the Spine of the World in the north to the jungles of Chult in the south, and from the Sword Coast in the west to the eastern steppes of the Hordelands.

The continent is home to numerous cultures and races, including humans, elves, dwarves, halflings, and more exotic beings like tieflings and dragonborn. Major powers include human kingdoms like Cormyr, known for its chivalric Purple Dragons; the mercantile Waterdeep on the Sword Coast; and the sinister Zhentarim network. Magic permeates Faerûn, from the Weave manipulated by wizards to ancient Netherese ruins and elven mythals. The gods are active, with deities like Amaunator (sun and law) and Shar (darkness) influencing mortal affairs.

Faerûn’s history is marked by cataclysms like the Spellplague (1385 DR), which reshaped magic and geography, and the Sundering (1480s DR), which restored much of the old order. As of 1490s DR, the continent faces threats from dragons, cults, and planar incursions, while adventurers explore ancient ruins, battle monsters like beholders and mind flayers, and navigate political rivalries. Faerûn’s blend of epic heroism, gritty realism, and sprawling lore makes it a quintessential D&D setting for diverse campaigns.
