Session 20 Summary

General Summary

We picked up the adventure as the party was preparing to ascend the back stairs of the Grahlund Villa. As they explored what turned out to be the servant’s quarters, they could hear sounds of combat taking place elsewhere on the floor to the west. This area of the house, however, proved mainly empty, aside from a cluster of terrified chefs, maids and valets who had lightly barricaded themselves in the southeast corner.

With no evident entry point to the western portion of the second floor, the party returned to the main floor and decided to ambush the two Zhentarim thugs guarding the Great Hall. They made quick work of them before ascending the main stairway to the upper foyer, where they found a pitched battle already underway.

Joining the fight on the side of the Grahlund guards, the party was able to cut down the three remaining Zhentarim thugs. As the party and the guards paused to assess each other, they could hear a loud banging coming from a room to the south. After a guard entered that room, the opened door revealed a wounded Urstul Floxin attempting to break down another door on the south wall with a heavy stone bust. When he saw that his fellow Zhents had been slain and recognized two of the three undisguised party members, Urstul quickly made a hasty retreat from the scene. The party attempted to chase him down, landing several significant blows, but ultimately proved no match for the speedy rogue as he vaulted the villa gates and slipped off into the busy streets.

Upon returning to the villa’s second floor, the party spoke briefly with Lady Yalah Gralhund, who wanted to know who they were and why they were here, but also expressed gratitude for their evident assistance. While they spoke, Horus activated the nimblewright detector, only to find out that whatever automaton it had sensed earlier had since moved away from the villa to the outer reaches of the devices’ range. When they asked the Lady about the automaton, she claimed to know nothing about it. Not wanting to overstay their tentative welcome, or face any more of the Lady’s questions, the party made an abrupt departure, heading back to Trollskull Manor to discuss the morning’s events and decide what to do next.
