Session 17 Summary
General Summary
We opened at Trollskull Manor in the early evening as the party members were trying to decide on their next course of action. The pending meeting at the Buxom Beauty had not yet been set, so the party chose to head out to the Dock Ward and begin their search for Harko Swornhold; the evil adventurer they must put to the sword at the behest of the Lords’ Alliance.
Over the course of the next nine hours, Lunchmoney’s keen investigative skills, along with critical support from Horus and his inspiring stories, led the party to the waterfront in the far west end of the Docks Ward, and a ship known as the Driftwood Dancer.
After briefly scouting the area and seeing Harko standing in the bow of the ship, drink in hand, and two other kenku nearby, the party quickly put together a plan. Hawthorne was to use magic to disguise himself as a kenku, in order to parlay with Harko and hopefully draw him together with his kenku, so that Horus could target the entire group with a Sleep spell.
Unfortunately, the enemy quickly saw through Hawthorne’s attempts at deception, and within a minute he found himself disarmed, bound with rope and hauled aboard the ship. This did, however, manage to bring Harko close by to one of the kenku, at which point Horus emerged from hiding. Alas, only the kenku was affected by the spell, which was nonetheless viewed as aggression, triggering full combat.
During the lengthy battle, two more kenku revealed themselves from hidden positions and the party soon found themselves badly wounded and facing heavy odds. But with a number of strategically smart spells, including a Command spell that drew Harko off his boat where Lunchmoney could deliver a series of devastating divine strikes; a Zephyr Strike spell that helped Hawthorne maneuver off the boat after breaking his bonds; and an invisibility spell that helped Horus pop out of sight and slide in behind Harko to deliver both a chilling touch and the final, killing dagger thrust.
With their leader down, the remaining kenku quickly fled the scene. After retrieving Harko’s purse and some identifying jewelry, the party also thought it prudent to leave the area before any potential witnesses showed up.
Exhausted and bloodied, the party decided to drop in at the Yawning Portal for a short rest before returning home. On their way, Horus received a message via Paper Bird from Renaer, letting them know that a meeting had been arranged at the Buxom Beauty the next day at noon.
