Session 14 Summary

General Summary

Having finally collected enough funding, the party spent a tenday working with Broxley Fairkettle and his many guild contacts to renovate Trollskull Manor and get their new business ready.   On opening night, the place looked spectacular and they opened the doors to admit the small crowd that had gathered. Among the patrons were a number of familiar faces with whom the new business owners began to mingle.   They asked Captain Staget about the goose insignia. He couldn’t identify it, but thought it looked like the sigil of a Waterdeep noble house.   Volo and Floon struggled to identify which house it belonged to, but suggested their friend Renaer would likely know.   Broxley Fairkettle told them where they could locate Ranaer’s estate in the North Ward, and following the successful renovation, he encouraged the party to continue working with him in the future.   Jalester Silvermane came looking for the party to offer them a contract from the Lords Alliance. They agreed to seek out Harko Swornhold, an evil adventurer who was exiled three years ago for attempting to bribe a city magistrate. He has apparently returned to Waterdeep illegally and they think Xanathar Guild is using him to incite violence. He was last seen recruiting kenku in the Dock Ward.   Once found, they are to discreetly put him to the sword, and Jalester said the Lords Alliance could help with any entanglements with the City Watch, but likely can’t protect the party if the Xanathar Guild finds out and seeks revenge.   Fala, the druid who runs the local apothecary, offered the party an investment opportunity in a potion she’s developing that can ‘cure’ inebriation. The details have not been finalized but for a 50 gold investment, the party could purchase the potions at a 50% discount.   Lastly, Emry Pebblepot the brewer approached the party seeking to make a business deal to sell his beer at the manor. He came prepared with samples that demonstrated the exceptional quality of his craft.   As the night wound down, Volo requested that Horus perform for the crowd and that he did. His flute instrumental encouraged a vocal accompaniment from Volo and Floon, which he then followed up with a rousing story featuring the exploits of an unsettling goose.   After cleaning up, their new staff of Wilbur, Kira and Tim took their leave and the party settled down for their first truly restful sleep in quite some time.   The next morning, as they began planning how to track down Harko, they were interrupted by a window-rattling explosion from the streets. When they rushed out to investigate, they found a gruesome scene that included no less than 11 dead bodies. While many seemed to belong to innocent passers by, two appeared to be members of the Zhentarim, while a third; a gnome, carried a dagger in his hand and showed evidence of having recently travelled in the sewers. With some degree of discretion, Hawthorne was able to pocket a purse he spotted on the gnome just before the arrival of the City Watch.
