Session 13 Summary
General Summary
We began in front of Trollskull Manor, where the party was finally prepared to deal with their rat infestation. After entering the building, the rats coalesced into three large rat swarms. The party made good use of the materials they brought, including fire attacks, a pepper bombing and a silent (and somewhat smelly) image of an oversized cat, to quickly handle the swarms and prevent further swarms from forming. One thing they discovered, however, was that the supposedly high proof and expensive alcohol that they’d purchased at a nearby bar was in fact only a weak and tasteless beer. Now that the infestation was cleared and upon investigation, they discovered that someone had drilled holes in the walls of their manor and used some sort of pellet-shaped food to lure in the rats.
They party then returned to Frewn’s Brews to seek out a refund, but found the bar to be strangely closed in the early evening. As they approached, they could hear voices inside and eventually Hawthorne was able to identify Frewn having a discussion with the Shard Shunner gang! The conversation revealed that it was Frewn who had hired the gang to harass the party, that he was looking to acquire the property himself, and that the Shard Shunners were not happy with their pay and had come demanding more. After Frewn paid them 50 gold, they left through the back.
Uncertain about confronting Frewn, they party returned to their manor only to discover Danika of the Shard Shunners in the process of drilling another hole in their wall. During a tense confrontation, she denied any wrongdoing and while not seeming the slightest bit intimidated by the party, she nonetheless chose to flee when she sensed that a confrontation seemed imminent.
As the party discussed what to do with this information, they happened to notice Frewn walking past their property on his way to some unknown destination. They quickly confronted him and Lunchmoney made it clear what they thought of the booze he sold to them. As Frewn, who was clearly intimidated, attempted to give the party their money back, they revealed to him that they knew he was behind hiring the gang, and demanded that he call them off. Frewn agreed to do so, but also grew increasingly anxious and stressed, and eventually attempted to escape the encounter entirely. But as he pushed past Horus, who had stealthily moved in behind him, he dropped a heavy coin purse on the ground, spilling gold coins across the cobblestones. As Frewn turned back and attempted to reclaim his money, Horus’s quick reflexes helped him snatch it up first. And before Frewn could do more than complain, Horus cast a spell that dropped the greasy barman to the ground, fast asleep.
The party then did their best to pass off the interaction as innocent to passers by, before quickly retreating to their manor with Frewn’s purse. Once inside, they were surprised to discover that the purse contained 427 gold coins and a crumpled note at the bottom. The note was from someone with the initials VC & AC who had apparently loaned Frewn the money he’d been using to pay the Shard Shunners, and that they wanted Frewn to keep the party members busy and distracted, and out of their own affairs. The note was marked with an insignia containing the image of a goose.
Thus concluded chapter two, and the party members ascended to level 3.
