Session 11 Summary

General Summary

The session began again in the Yawning Portal with the party discussing what to do about their manor house infestation. Choosing to defer the decision until later, they set their sights on the mission they’d been assigned by the Order of the Gauntlet and went to bed. The next morning, after Bonnie served them breakfast, they set out for the Field Ward.
After trekking around the muddy, unpaved streets of Waterdeep’s slum ward (while listening to Horus sing poorly about sex with farm animals), they came upon a group of ruffians squatting next to a smoky fire pit and recognized an old acquaintance, Krentz. But before they could do anything more than acknowledge each other, a group of four Zhentarim thugs approached from the west with murderous intent. The party also noticed another shadowy figure in the background, seeming to watch the encounter with some interest.
First off, Horus cast a quick Charm Person on Krentz to secure the non-aggression of he and his goons. He then made an initial attempt to intimidate the two aggressive parties, only to fail miserably and combat then ensued. As the thugs smashed and sliced each other, the party attempted a number of clever tactics to help avoid anyone getting killed, including: Horus putting one Thug to sleep with magic; Lunchmoney entering into a compelled duel with another thug and then taking the dodge action; Hawthorn grappling a third thug to the ground and pinning him there; Horus using his Charm magic to influence Krentz’s crossbow target; and Lunchmoney even using Lay on Hands to heal a particularly injured thug.
Despite all this, the situation was looking dire as lady luck was just not on their side. A second attempt to intimidate with a scary tentacle silent image just made everyone wonder where the giant black dildo came from. But finally, and with the help of a critically important Bardic Inspiration, the party was able to stop the violence and force the Zhentarim thugs to retreat.
Having narrowly succeeded at their mission, the party headed back to the Yawning Portal for some well-earned celebratory beverages.
