Session 10 Summary
General Summary
The session opened with the party on their doorstep, surveying the rat infestation in their manor. Horus attempted to put the rats to sleep, but his spell proved to not be powerful enough to affect them all.
As they debated what to do, they were approached by Kelso, the leader of a group who had previously offered unlicenced labour to help fix up the manor, but had been declined. Kelso again offered to help deal with the rat problem for a price, but the party made it clear they were not interested in his services.
Unsure what to do next, the party returned to the Yawning Portal to take a long rest. The next morning they were sought out by a Knight named Savra Belabranta, who offered them a job. They were asked to intervene in a conflict between the Zhentarim and the Xanathar Guild that was expected to take place in the Field Ward the next day. Acting as representatives of the Order of the Gauntlet, they are to stop the conflict before it begins, or take direct action if necessary, but to avoid adding to the city’s mounting death toll. The party agreed to take the job and were told to seek out Savra at the Hall of Justice in the Temple of Tyr when their work was complete.
Next, the party asked around about Jalister Silvermane, hoping to get his assistance in dealing with the rats. Jalister was not immediately available, but came quickly when Lunchmoney sent him a summons via a paper bird.
Jalister promised to find out what he could about Kelso and his crew, and said to meet him back at the Yawning Portal later that afternoon.
While they waited for Jalister, they party returned to Trollskull Alley to explore the neighbourhood and the local businesses. They found a Carpentry shop named “The Bent Nail”; an Apothecary named “Corellon’s Crown”, a Weapon/Armoursmith named “Steam and Steel”, a Magic Shop with no visible name, and a business called “Tiger’s Eye”.
The party visited the apothecary looking to purchase poison from the Elven Druid Fala to deal with the rats, but found the prices offered (25 gp per potion of poison) too rich to bear.
They then visited the Tiger’s Eye, where they met a private investigator named Vincent who offered to find information about Kelso and his crew for 20 gp, but again the party would not accept the expense.
Upon returning to the Yawning Portal again, Jalester was able to share that Kelso was the leader of a gang known as the Shard Shunners; local ruffians who don’t typically cause problems but can generally be hired to do pretty much anything if the price is right. Jalester thinks someone has hired the gang to harass the owners of Trollskull Manor, but was unable to find out who or why.
