Session 08 Summary

General Summary

We rejoined the party in the monk’s cave at the top of Mount Waterdeep, still attempting to persuade him to share his wisdom. The party decided to look closer at the chalk drawers on the cave walls. After a lengthy investigation, Lunchmoney was able to determine that the drawers comprised a timeline that may reflect key events in Hlam’s life, including his encounters with various figures and magical beasts, but also what appeared to be an important meeting with a celestial being wreathed in magical energy. Leveraging his knowledge of religion, Lunch was able to guess that the figure represented the Goddess Mystra.   With this new knowledge in hand, Horus was finally able to persuade the monk to speak after sharing that he and his companions had had their own encounters with Mystra and received her blessing. Following a close examination of each party member, Hlam finally shared his insight into the pending dangers facing the city of Waterdeep. He explained that the “Followers of the scale” have returned to the city, bent on revenge and destruction, and that they have an ally among the nobility. He advised the party to “Seek out the sign of the goose.” The party then returned to the city and to the tower of the Blackstaff to report the monk’s warning and claim their reward. The Blackstaff then offered them membership in Force Grey, so that she may call upon them again should she require their services. After some deliberation, the party agreed to join the faction.   On the way home, the party stopped in at the Yawning Portal tavern where they encountered an old frenemy of Lunch’s known as Jalester Silvermane; a known associate of the Lord’s Alliance. Jalester offered the party members some faction work doing protection duty for the Dungsweeper’s Guilde in the Dock Ward, as they had recently suffered several mysterious losses.   Back at Trollskull Manor, the party was accosted by a group of halflings selling their services as unlicenced labourers. When the party declined the overture, the halfling leader Kelso did not seem pleased, and while he and his companions left without incident, they did so with a not-so-subtle air of hostility.   The party spent the next few days performing somewhat uneventful guard duty for the dungsweepers, while putting in a bit of work fixing up the manor and dealing with some curious noises and disruptions overnight. But on the fourth day of their work assignment, Horus witnessed a monstrous, rank-smelling centipede burst forth from the sewers and attempt to grapple a nearby worker, and battle ensued.
