Personal history

Growing up I always seemed to know I was a little bit different. However, I never really knew why until that one day I was in town with my father. We were dropping off another work order, my father was a carpenter and did a lot of work for the city, and without thinking I took off my hood as I jumped out of the wagon. My father always said to keep my hood on as to not raise suspicion, but I always thought that it was because I was a young girl and shouldn't be helping with my father's work. Suddenly, I got a lot of weird stares and glances. I didn't know what was going on, and I hadn't done anything that I knew of. What's a five year old to think? I went and tugged on my father's cloak and asked him if I had done something wrong, why are people looking at me funny? He quickly and gently pulled my hood back up and said he would tell me when we got back home. That's when he told me. That's when I found out I wasn't quite human. That I was half human..moreso, a Half-Elf.   A child of two worlds, my father told many tales that night and many nights to come of my mother and how I came into this world, for my father loved an Elf you see. My father didn't know she was pregnant until it was closer to the time of my birth, as they saw each other every other month or so. Men didn't do so well in Elven villages, and Elves...well they're generally not looked well upon amongst humans. Shortly before I was born it was decided that I would live and grow up with my father, for I would not be as safe and cared for and would not be truly accepted among the Elves. So he raised me and my two older human siblings all on his own.   As I grew older I suppose it was my curious nature and carefree sense of philosophy that got me where I am today. Knowing I had Elven ancestry, I needed to learn as much as I could about the Elves and their history. If only to visit an Elven society one day, that would be a dream come true. I studied in the city and never wore my hood! I was proud to have Elven ancestry running through my blood. I mean it's not like everyone was human, just you know, mostly everyone was human. I loved the schools, the people, the books, I practically lived in the libraries, where of course is where I had a little incident one day. So I was reading a tome like any other day and before you know it, woosh! Out of knowhere I was completely covered in what I can only describe as a shroud of darkness. I was frightened and terrified at first, however, it wasn't a creepy or eerie kind of feeling, it was unusually calming and silent as if time stood still, like something out of a dream. Then, a voice called out at me, a female voice, asking if she could aid me with furthering my knowledge and education in understanding the circle of life. Not knowing or seeing any real downside to this proposition, and being young and stupid, I agreed with the mysterious voice becasue who wouldn't want to obtain more knowledge right? Then, as if nothing had happened, I was back sitting on the library floor against a bookshelf with my book. After that "moment" I put the book back and immediately went home to get some rest and to somewhat process what all just happened. Was it all just a dream?   I wasn't sure what to do, so I told my father about the incident in the library. He sighed and said it could be a sign from the gods and to go and see the Augurs just in case. "The Augurs?" feeling a little unsettled I asked... The Augurs were priests of Morr who dealt with people's dreams, fate, and prophecies. Morr you see is the God of the Dead, Dreams, and Fate. Begrudgingly, I headed over to their temple. They are rather calming, solemn temples made from stone with some wood for doors and asthetics. Most people at some time or another come to pay respects or ask for assistance with ceremonies and rituals for their dead. For Morr and most people you see, do not wish the dead to rise.   I walked through the temple quietly, as my studies had brought me there once before... and finally got the courage to talk to one of the priests. "Come with me", he said after I told him what I had experienced. We walked to a different part of the Temple I had not explored last time and went through a large wooden door. On the other side was an open room, some braziers on either side and a wooden fence towards the end of the room. He started telling me what I had experienced was all in a dream state, that this is how Morr and his avatars speak to us. Clearly it's possible I dozed off in the library, definitely wasn't the first time, probably not the last time either. We talked for a short while about Morr and of his followers and of his temples. Afterwards he said he had a test for me. He called it Force or Fire. It sounded rather interesting so who am I to say no to learning something new. He first handed me a wooden raven, about the size of my hand. Then he told me to hold it out in front of me, close my eyes, and concentrate on the raven. A couple minutes go by and the priest said alright, and I handed him the raven back. Next he handed me a black orb and instructed me again to hold out my hands, close my eyes, and concentrate on the orb. Moments later, I could feel something come over me, as if I were literally channelling my life force, my willpower into this orb. I opened my eyes, the orb started to glow a brilliant blueish white light and then.... boom! A crackling beam of energy jolted towards the fence and it exploded everywhere!   As one could imagine, I just stood there, frozen. The priest had to catch the orb as it was falling out of my hands. I just stood there, glaring into the distance. The priest was saying something, but I couldn't hear him, for I was lost in thought and could only see the broken fence before me. I remember feeling a little drained, like a dizzy spell coursed throughout my body. The priest was finally able to get my attention as I snapped out of my trance. He said that Morr himself had favored me, that I had agreed to his pact and has bestowed upon me his arcane knowledge. "Come again?", I said. The priest went on how I was to become in his service for Morr granting me this power and knowledge. That I was to serve as his faithful and further my knowledge of arcane and forgotten lore and above all else, protect the dead. "Okay...., So I'm going to go home now and see my father before anything else crazy happens." The priest said I was free to come and go as I please, however, it would be best to come back sooner than later to begin my research, and my training. And home I went.   I had no idea how to break the news to my father, so I just told him to sit down and told him everything that happened. My dad let out a long, deep sigh and then went over for a drink and said he always knew I was special, he knew this day would come. You see there was an intense storm the night of my birth, moreso than normal and the Elves told me to watch over you and protect you, for something was coming. They said I would walk a different path, one full of purpose. "It is time then", he said, "time for you to become the woman you were meant to be and head off on your own journey." He then handed me a pack that he clearly had already prepared for this day, told me that he loved me and that he would always be here and that there would always be a place for me to come home to.   I spent that last day with my father and my brothers, Robin and Tolman. We told stories, ate entirely too much food, and had some ale. The next morning came and off I went. I guess it came easy to me since I was always a little different and didn't quite fit in with the usual town and city folk. Although the younger guys would always try to win over my affection, none just ever seemed worth my time. So I walked back to the stone temple and found the priest that had tested me before. Although I should say he was waiting for me as if he knew I would return. And thus began my training and studying at the temple.   The training was much more difficult than I had anticipated, and it took me quite awhile to adjust to the weight of combat, both mentally and phsyically. However, that didn't stop the others from essentially beating me up everyday until I could properly defend myself. I mean, I was fairly athletic, but I wasn't exactly a large person or a strong person by any stretech of the imagination. Regardless, they always said I needed to protect myself from the forces of the undead and protect myself I would, for I would be ready should they come. I had a thirst for knowledge and Morr gave me the means to learn about such occult and forgotten eldritch lore that the least I could do was honor the dead in his name in such a way that they renain dead.   This was routine pretty much every morning. Exercise and training. Swords and shields. A small meal afterwards and then hitting the books. Although we did get to choose what subjects we would want to specialize in, which made learning significantly more fun. Obviously I was interested in the Elves and wanted to learn more about them and speak their language better, seeing as my father could only teach me so much between the days he told me about my mother and since joining the temple. Though I didn't stop there, for I wanted to know more about the gods and demons in the multiverse. I wanted to know them, to be able to speak to them, and so my studies gravitated towards their lores and tongues, their curses and blessings. This was my life now, a devout invoker, a follower of Morr. A warlock of death and dreams.
