House Rules

How I change things in my game. This is a list of things I do that are not standard to DnD 5e.

Ammunition and Thrown Weapons.

(Taking a page from the angry GM) Thrown Weapons are Recoverable Items. As such you mark when you throw it, if you run out during the combat, your out. After combat, as part of normal searching/looting, we will assume you recover these items. Unless something weird happened to your thrown weapon, i.e. threw it into a moving vehicle, or it went over a cliff etc. Spears, Axes, Daggers, Javilines will fall into this group of items.   Most ammo however is a Breakable Item. A breakable item is small, lightweight, and goes a long distance. As such these can be harder to find after a battle, and often times shatter and break. We will be using abstract tracking of these items. When you miss a shot, mark off one round. If you get a critical hit, mark off one round (it shattered). These are spent and you will need to replace them when you can. If you mark off the last item, you are out and can not use that weapon until you replace them. Arrows, bolts, shurikens, darts, and stones are all breakable Items.   Consumable ammo can not be recovered, you shoot it, it's gone. You will need to replace this type of ammo. Bullets for guns and other shot items will not be recoverable in the field. Mark them off, and buy more when your out.

Refilling a Quiver

For breakable ammo, arrows bolts, and the like, the cost to replace a partly used quiver is a quarter of the ammo's value for each 25% or less the quiver is empty. This is you fixing bad fletching or less than stellar ammo that has been beaten up in the field.
