Trollclaw Hills
In ages past the Trollclaw Hills were named for the resident and highly aggressive hill trolls that made their home in the shallow caves of the area. During the latter years of the age of man the hills were domesticated and the town of Maragrath was established. The hills became a vital farming hub and central to the empire of the sands expansion north. due to its elevated position above the plains below great fortresses were built on each of the four compass points. farming the rich soil continued throughout the age of empires and into the kingdom age although the fortresses to the north, south and east fell into disuse, ruins and finally destruction in the case of the south and eastern forts. The western fortress became a training group for the Aul'Daran armies right up until the end of the Pale Wars. The lower slopes of the hills also fell into disuse during this time and the woods slowly reclaimed them. In the wake of the Pale Wars the Trollclaw hills have once again become a wild place. No natural and/or uncorrupted creatures live in the hills and the lack of the usual noises such as birds and predatory animal call is unnerving for first time visitors. The northern fortress is now home to bandits and cultists, the western fortress is now home to the Aul'Daran Rangers and the hills are home to the corrupted and devils.
During the Pale Wars a group of magic using adventurers attempted to trap a large force of devils besieging the town of Maragrath. the ritual was partially successful but instead of banishing the devils it trapped them in a protective field surrounding the town. the trapped devils have been trying to find weak points in the field and over the years quite a few have escaped into the hills.
