Akara

The Dragon of Dreams, The Dreaming Dragon Akara

Akara is an ancient dragon deity worshipped by a small congregation of various races living in the forest. The legend surrounding Akara is that she was one of the first dragons to exist in the world and was blessed with immense power by the other gods. It is said that Akara was tasked with guarding a powerful artifact that was capable of granting this incredible power to whoever possessed it. However, Akara eventually fell into a deep slumber as she guarded the artifact, and has remained asleep for centuries.   Those who worship Akara believe that she will one day awaken to guide and protect them, and that they have been chosen by her to be her loyal servants. They also believe that the artifact she guards is the key to unlocking her power, and they have spent centuries searching for clues as to its whereabouts.   Legends also say that Akara is capable of shapeshifting into a beautiful dragonborn female, and that she sometimes appears to her most devoted followers in this form. It is believed that those who catch a glimpse of her are blessed with good luck and fortune.

Despite being in a deep slumber, it is said that Akara's power still lingers in the temple and surrounding forest, and those who are pure of heart and seek her guidance may be granted visions or insights into their future.   Akara, who is also known as The Dreaming Dragon, is said to have existed since the beginning of time and to hold the secrets of the universe within her slumbering mind. One of the ways her followers show their devotion to her is through meditation. By some, it is believed that they can connect with Akara and gain insight into the mysteries of the world by grounding themselves or delving deeper into their mind's eye.   The temple where Akara is worshipped is known as The Tree of Ancients as it is the oldest tree in all of Faehaven. The Tree of Ancients is located deep within a forest that has come to be known as The Sanctum of The Dreaming Dragon where the veil between the physical world and the realm of dreams are thin. The congregation who worships Akara are known as Dreamers and the priests and priestesses (aka Akara's Wardens) who devote their lives to watching over her slumbering form are gifted with psychic insight and the ability to interpret prophetic dreams.   An unfortunate belief among the congregation is that Akara's rest is not a peaceful one. It is said that she battles the nightmares who obscure themselves within the shadows of the dream realm and she works tirelessly to keep them from escaping into the mortal world.
