Cave of the Fae Court Way Point

The Fae Court Way Point is unique from other Way Point Stones in that it is not only located within the limits of the Fae Court proper, it is also the only way point that people can travel through without having to enter a way point area from the mortal realm. Travel using way points is general travelling between the Fae realm and the mortal realm by using the magic of the way point with the stone as a focus. By having an item attuned to the Fae Court Way Point, a person on the mortal realm can invoke the magic and return to the Fae realm at this way point. All other way point stones involve being in the area of the stone to travel between realms. The Fae Court Way point stone is said to be one of the oldest and most secure of all the way point stones (physically and magically). It also allows travel to a place the traveller has been to previously or to a place they have anchored on a previous visit.    It also has the unique distinction of being the only Way Point that does not have a corresponding spot in the mirtal realm. Theories say this lack of a corresponding way point in the mortal realm gives this particualr stone its ability to recieve a teleport from anywhere on the mortal realm. Other theories say this way point stone also alsos travel to and from other realms or even times, but none so far have been able to figure out any other travel destinations from it.    The Fae Court Way Point is also called the Royal Rock due to being located in the area of the former and current ruling seat in the Fae Realm. The Fae Court has built up around it and expanded over the years. It has become one of the most important way points in the realm, thus the reason it is so heavily guarded. It also is known as the Poofy Rock due to it's ability to receive transports from any location. People 'poof' on from everywhere, much to the chagrin of the spriggan guards there. However, the magic of the cave seems to give them a second sight sense when it comes to transport through the stone. Spriggans are never surprised by anyone using the way point, as if they know someone is about to come through.

Purpose / Function

The Fae Court Way Point is one of the most powerful and secure Way Point Stones in the Fae realm. The magic it uses has never failed and it was one of the only way point stones to stay functional after Titania's Folly closed nearly all of the way points.    The purpose of the building is to house the way point as well as priceless artifacts in the secondary cave deep within the earth. It is a strategic point, for travel and military reasons. The Fae Court Way Point Allows travel to other way points that are active as well as remote travel from any location.    The cave itself seems to exude a magickal aura that amplifies magic cast around or near it. Spriggans find them selves slightly stronger as they are magical undead beings. Spells cast within the cave seem to have a higher chance of success. this extends to the storage cave further along the passage way.

Alterations

Two outbuildings have been attached to the cave; a shrine built by way point worshippers and a guard barracks. These guards are specially picked and trained to guard the Cave of the Fae Court Way Point. More Elves seem drawn to the duty than any other race. Fae are rarely on duty as they seem to enjoy the freedom of other duties.    The top of the cave has been fortified to protect against any thrown or 'heaved' objects. A watchtower has been placed there as not only a landmark seen from quite a distance, but also for guards to see that same distance.   Of note, no extra digging has been done within the cave. The one time is was tried, the passage was filled in the next day by an unseen force.

Architecture

The stone that is the focus of the Royal Rock has never been toppled or removed. It has ornate runes all over it's surface. Some have been deciphered while others remain mysterious. There are some that are said to be decorative. The cave itself has been there as long as the way point itself has. There are writings and symbols on the wall that correspond with some on the way point stone. The cave housing the stone is twenty feet in diameter (roughly) and twenty feet high. There is a single enterance and an opening in the back of the cave that extends deeper into the ground. It goes back and down at a 45 degree angle about one hundred feet to an identical room where the stone is. Teh room is emptysave for artifacts and some unique or priceless items that are stored away from public view.

Defenses

The Way Point is located within a cave that has been fortified throughout the years.    It has been given the nickname of Rhistel's Rock due to the Spriggan who has guarded it since it has been found. Rhistel is a spriggan guard, loyal to the Fae Court, but also with a strange attachment to the Fae Court Way Point. He guarded it during Titania's Folly and it is said he has been there since he became a spriggan.    There are never less than 3 spriggans around the stone, 2 guards (human, elven, or other) outside the mouth of the cave, and one spriggan or 4 guards in the relic room. There is also always a way point worshipper near the stone, tending to it and the surrounding environs.

History

They say the ruling court of ancient times (now the Fae Court) was built around the Royal Rock, due to its unique properties. The cave it is in has been fortified and there is even a shrine outside of it set up by a small sect that worships the way points and travels from point to point on the fae realm cleaning and tending the way points. There is a corresponding group on the mortal realm that does something similar but they travel under the guise of archelogists, geologists, and other natural scientists.
