Yveni

Yveni, also known as the Pirate's Den and the Pretender Kingdom, is a country in the West of Primus. The province is noted for its many ports and many quays. A fairly temperate region, it sometimes becomes very humid when the summers run long. Its geography is noted for its rolling plains and dotted forests, but not much else. It is inhabited by a mixture of humanoid races, equal parts orc, human, and half-elf.   Yveni is predominantly a rural and maritime nation, with many of its major population centers situated along the coast. Smaller, burgeoning towns and villages can be found in the heartlands, with a surprising number of developing cities and towns to the south where the majority of its food production is dominated by wide sweeping plains converted into fields. It borders Reiya to the South East and Alaha to the North East, the Marsor Tops separate it from Tarys. To its West lies the Athacier Sea, to which many Yveni spend their life out on ships.

Geography

Yveni is a naturally warm part of Primus most of the year. Breezy when spring and winter come, but unbearably humid when the summers begin to hit. Temperate forests dot the interior of the country, intermingling and separated by the many plains that it hosts.   The south of the country boasts some of the largest tracts of arable land and is locally known as the Breadbasket, as that is where a majority of Yveni's food is grown. Though rural, recent attempts at modernizing it have borne fruit as more and more towns and villages are being settled and grown.

History

Yveni first did not exist as a proper country. Instead an untamed place that was claimed in name only by the Thirteen of eld. It was a corsair nation, beholden to little rules save for the mightiest of the pirate crews. Those that sought a different life inland were often raided, those that often attempted to stand up out at sea were often destroyed. Yet, the pirate's life was not for thee, as growing numbers of people resented and often cursed the Thirteen for their oppressive and brutal ways.   A revolution came.   Led in part by minor pirate crews that wanted greater power denied to them by exclusivity of the Thirteen, the Drowned War, led to the creation and rise of a monarchy. A new ruling system was in place, a Monarchy supported by its rich and noble allies, deigned to name them the Noble Houses. The rest of the populace served them and the land itself and the people rejoiced. Yet, few saw the reality for what it was. The same government, simply dressed in better clothing with a better outlook on life than the previous.   Yet, even as the decades passed, not everyone is content with their lot in life. The pirate's heritage and blood still remain strong and there are those that would see the old ways restored. Others would simply take advantage of the chaos to claim greater power, ushering in a new age of Yveni.
Politics   In the decades before the invasion, shortly before it happened, Yveni was ruled by the Thirteen. A collection of the biggest pirate gangs that regularly vied for competition and power. This usually meant killing the other. However, with a more civilized age came the Monarchy. Won in a bloody civil war, the current Monarch is Edouard of the Thibodeaux lineage. Edouard still remembers his grandfather's stories of the war and subsequent founding of the Kingdom. With these cautionary tales, he keeps a tight vice grip on his own power, assuring that Yveni stays on its proper path as a Kingdom and that none would dare to usurp him or his family from its well-deserved place.   Yet, that comes at ensuring the placidity of the Noble Houses. Which often means bending to them as well as exerting his influence in the same manner. It is a delicate balance and the slightest upset could send the whole system crashing down.   And, being descendants of reformed pirates, there are those that would be more than glad to take the lion's share of glory and power for themselves and their kin.
Rulers   Edouard Thibodeaux - King of Yveni. A cautious man, he was raised to always respect his seniors as well as the words and lessons they carry. Due to this, he believes fiercly in the Kingdom and is vehemently opposed to returning to the traditions. Ruthless and unrestrained, Edouard will stop at nothing to ensure the safety of his Kingdom.   Henry Thibodeaux - First in line, second son.   Christian Thibodeaux - Second in line, third son.   Amelia Thibodeaux - Third in line, first daughter.   Amanda Thibodeaux - Second in line, second daughter.
Faith   Yveni's religious schools separate out into two schools: Valkur and Umberlee. Those that worship Umberlee are the more traditionalists, believing that sacrifices to the Sea Bitch are enough to spare her wrath from their many and frequent journeys out into the Great Blue. Yet, the 'reformists' would instead offer their faith to Valkur, believing that his presence is the only one that could employ safety for their peoples both at Sea and in land. They also fuel their secret desire for his triumph over Umberlee and the two faiths have known to engage in skirmishes, though none would state that their faith was the primary reason why.

Notable Places

Baelion - Capital of Yveni. Trade capital second only to the Bandaari. Host to a wide range of embassies. Was formerly the site of one of the largest pirate port towns, most of the architectural changes have demolished most of this evidence.   Jasper's Retreat - A small island off the coast of Yveni that is rumored to be every pirate's resting place. More commonly associated with the treasure of Beauregard's, an eccentrically wealthy pirate that has scattered his fortune somewhere.   Nickerton - A small region of Yveni populated solely by Gnomes. A recent addition in the times of the Adrennian invasion, the Gnomes provide much needed tax in addition to technological contributions in exchange for the permanent settlements they've erected.   Rosa's Cabinet - The premier burlesque show and bar in Baelion. Unfortunately closed due to renovations, rumor has it that it will open soon and in a much more spectacular fashion.   Abyss Market - An underground black market that deals in many contraband and missing goods from various ships Primus-wide.

One of the few who did not bow to the crown and still corsairs around the sea. Is beholden to none, respecting his own law. Loves a good glass of rum.

"I still remember my father telling me horror stories about the time before. Crews that would constantly betray one another for parts to treasure maps. How riots would break out if a tavern brawl got too out of hand. Worst of all? The Captains in charge encouraged it all. These may be hard times, but I shudder to think what life would be like without it."

While not in a formal trade agreement, a gentleman's agreement is arranged between the two nations. Yveni utilizes the Bnadaari's wide connections to export its goods for a reliable source of income and the Bandaari use Yveni's vast connections to ship their and Yveni's goods out to the known world.
