Baelion
Baelion, the city of Reformists, is the capital of Yveni. Next to Ilahan, it sports the second-most trading ports and shipyards this side of Primus.
Description
Baelion is a major metropolitan area in Yveni. The city is surrounded by seawalls and traditional walls. The sea walls are interconnected by a series of sea gates that raise by a wench system, allowing for restricted access in and out of its large harbor at a moment's notice. While the walls provide protection, Yveni relies on its vast navy to provide most of its legwork, with the ground army deploying on amphibious deployments or simply supporting the defense until relief can come from offshore. Its buildings are cramped and crowded, save for the lone castle which stands at the epicenter of the city and surrounds itself with its own moat. The growing population threatens to expand past the protection of the walls and forces an issue of continued expansion for the capital.Geography
Baelion is founded on the coast of the Athacier Sea, located on its eastern shore. It is situated comfortably close to trading outposts and other towns further east that have a more accessible ship route to the capital from its short sea travel. It sits comfortably among wooded plains and enjoys temperate weather for most of the year save for winter when wind chills from the ocean make it relatively cold.Society
In Yveni, if you believe in the Monarchy, you live in the region of the capital. If you are a true believer in the stability it has and wish to bask in its cultural and historical signifcance, you live in Baelion. The citizens there have relgated them to a peasant's lot or a noble's life and care not for the past. They would rather see a King or Queen rule for a thousand years than go back to the roaming pirate clans of old, and will be more than happy to express this both vocally no matter where they are. Though many sailors still do sail out of these ports, it is more common to see them as part of the official navy rather than privateers.Customs
While Baelion partakes in the Primus-wide holidays, few traditions were ever established from the era of Pirate rule. As such, there are not many held fairs or festivals, or traditional dances to commemorate events. However, recent attempts to solve this are underway, with the first of annual festivals being the Grand Treasure Hunt. It's a city-wide event that broadcasts to locals, the main attraction being buried 'treasure' located around the region for citizens to go out and explore. The prizes range from fun, harmless toys to coin and actual items of worth. It honors both the past, but conveniently in a much more lighter painting.History
In 1312 BIP, the port town of Lyain was besieged and promptly razed in the ongoing civil war between pirates and reformists. However, the location was valuable and some would not want to waste the opportunity. In an attempt to both spit on his enemies and cement their side of the war, Ian Thibodeaux refounded the city and prompted to make it a city worth living in. Construction and layout was preplanned, with many modern advancements for ports, sewers, and walls taking first issue. When the Drowned War concluded, the city that Ian founded was proclaimed the capital and has served as such ever since.Rumors and Legends
It is said that when the city was razed, the burned a member of the Thirteen with it. Sometimes, at night, one can hear the cries and anguish from the Captain himself. That his very spirit walks the streets and murders an unsuspecting victim. That the city itself is doomed and haunted by its ancestral enemy.Notable Locations
