Personal history
Like Rosla, Kalnja was born in Bel'tar. Her childhood was simple, but she always craved adventure, and her home life never quite satisfied that for her. Even as a child, she was determined to be sent to the palace in Tarleigh. She trained hard, walking like a shadow in the night and second to none with the classic Breathnóirí katar.
The year of her 12th birthday, Empress Ardra and Emperor Rhodan arrived with the announcement of Ardra's pregnancy. Looking for a suitable warrior to protect their new heir, Kalnja was the one who made the cut. Ardra was impressed both by young Kalnja's skill and her eagerness and kindness.
Rosla and another Breathnóirí woman were already attending to the Emperor and the Empress respectively, so they were charged with training Kalnja for the next decade.
Rosla and Kalnja butted heads in the early days. Rosla was the harshest critic Kalnja had ever had, and she resented her for it. They often argued behind closed doors, but they would soon find a force to unite them. Seeing Rhodan distance himself from his daughter brought the two closer together to help raise and protect her. Kalnja learned to look up to Rosla. The two saved an infant Aetheria from an attempt on her life, which solidified their relationship and taught them to have each other's backs.
As Aetheria grew, she looked up to Kalnja like an older sister.
Together, Kalnja and Rosla helped Aetheria orchestrate her own "death", and Kalnja left with the princess to train her and protect her as they searched for the Brazier of Worlds, hoping to find it before the emperor and Zierties could.
