Erlandsson School of Art and History

The Erlandsson School of Art and History takes its name from Alvar Erlandsson, a Eydraumr Skald primarily active in the 1200s CE. The school was originally founded in 1534 as Norðurskáli (lit. "Northern Lodge"), a small Skaldic college by Unnr Ericusson, with the campus grounds being Ericusson's family homestead. The descendent of Jarls in the region that is now Angrun, Ericusson founded the school in order to preserve the Skaldic tradition, and other traditions of Eydraumr, which he feared were becoming eroded by the influence of other cultures.    Eventually the college expanded to include nearby homesteads, including the small wooden lodge believed to belong to Alvar Erlandsson. In 1678, the college announced it would change its name to reflect its connection to Alvar Erlandsson, and began admitting students outside of the Norse of Eydraumr population. With this expansion, the offered curricula also expanded to include Arts and History beyond the traditional practices of Eydraumr, bringing the college alongside contemporaries and into the global sphere of influence. In 1843 the college introduced its first course-path taught in a language other than Norse (European History, in English). In 2015, the college began trialing its first STEM-related degree: Computer Science.    The college continues to offer coursework in both Norse and English, primarily focused on art, history, and culture. It offers 6 foreign languages (Spanish, French, Arabic, Chinese, German, and Korean), and is renowned as the premier institution for Library Sciences and Anthropology coursework. Degrees from Associates to Doctoral are offered. Priority is given to Eydraumr residents and those able to demonstrate fluency in Norse.   The campus grounds are sprawling with the vast majority of undergraduate students living in on-campus dorms, while graduate-level students reside in on-campus apartment-style housing. The grounds prioritize nature and history, and it is not unusual for an occasional class to be held in one of the many historically accurate meeting-halls and lodges on campus. The campus holds a small museum, attached to the library, with a sizeable collection of Eydraumr's historical artifacts and curated by professors on campus.
