The Vulcanite Temple
The Vulcanite Temple is the name give, by the Archivists, to the largest building in the Stone City. It stands behind the city center, as the tallest building in town. Just like with the rest of the town there is no evidence that the temple was ever used. However the Rune Hunters and Archivists were able to discerned its intended purpose.
The temple is almost three stories in hight, the ceilings inside are valted above the large main room. Off the the right are two smaller rooms. From the outside the temple looks like just another rising hill. The only other difference from the rest of the buildings is the mosaics that cover it. The billowing shapes seem ment to mimic the ash clouds after a volcanic explosion.
Intricately carved benches sit at the back of the main room. There are mosaics inlayed in the floor. These mosaics have a red pigment added to the grout between the pieces of obsidian. This give the apperance of thin rivers of lava crisscrossing the floor. The lines weave together spreading out from the front on the room, and the alcove there. A large round opening is carved into the stone above it, providing the only illumination in the room.
The alcove at the front of the room has several smaller alcoves in side it. Each alcove has a Obsidian statue. These statues are belived to be the deities worshiped by the people of the Stone City. Carved around each alcove are inscriptions that seem to translate to prayers, specific to each deity. These deities appear to be associated with the valcano itself along with, fire, earth, ash, rain and plants.
The smaller rooms seem to be private, either for meditation or perhaps where the priestes prepare for rituals. Both small rooms have a single bench, and a row of shelves carved into the back wall. Small openings are carved at the curve of the roof, letting in light.
What precise rituals and ceremonies were supposed to take place here is still unclear. But the Rune Hunters hope that further analysis of the prayers on the statue alcoves, may lead to answers.
