The Unicorn Migration
The Unicorns are a big part of the local environment. Particularly when it comes to their migration.
Unicorns migrate during the early Spring and late Fall. They travel from the northern foothills to the southern marshland, then back every year.
The northern foothills provide them a sheltered place in the cold winter and the marshlands are the coolest place to be in the summer heat. The migration is a major event. As the Unicorns travel their route takes them over the farmlands. As they cross the fields their diamond hard hooves turn up the soil making it ready for planting.
This means the farmers want to ensure the Unicorns cross the fields, and don't change their route. So they incentivize the Unicorns with a early crop of clover. They use sent markes from predators to turn the Unicorns away from towns or dangerous paths. Farmer make sure the fences are down so there is an open path for the Unicorns.
While many people turn out to watch the migration, this is best done from a distance. Even though Unicorns are usually peaceful creatures, they can be dangerous. A Unicorn stampede is a particularly dangerous thing. Not only do Unicorns have diamond hard hooves that can rip someone apart as they are trampled. They have spear like horns that can easily run a person through.
During the late spring and summer the Unicorns spend time in the marshlands, where they also change the landscape. By creating trails to open watering holes, and deepening mudholes.
The origins of unicorns in the Pocket Void is still widely debated with some believing they have always inhabited the Void. Others are of the opinion that they were extracted from a world where they were going extinct.
