Our Harmony Panpipes
The exact origin of the Harmony Panpipes is widely debated, the only thing agreed on was they appered at an Ice Moon Festival. They quickly became popular gifts.
Each of the pipes is carved to represent one member of the family. The level of detail and number of pipes vary from instrument to instrument. From simple figures to highly detailed images of the family member. Some simply carve the names of the family members. The family name is often engraved on the bar that holds the individual pipes together.
They are often sold at the Ice Moon festival. Venders will have sample panpipes and an asortment of individual pipes. People can select the individual pipes that will be assembled into a whole instrument there or can put in an order for a more customized set using the samples for insperation.
There also stalls where you can add another pipe. This is often done when a new family member is added. The new member is added as the smallest pipe. This is the same practice for both found and biological familys. Adding a pipe to the family Harmony panpipe has been used as a way to announce a pregnancy. Starting a new panpipe is used as an announcement of engagement or betrothal.
Some familys are large enough to need multiple Harmony Panpipes, organizing them in many different ways such as; by age, siblings, boys and girls, birthday months and many others. Panpipes will often be passed down through generations of family.
It doesn't matter if someone in the family knows how to play the panpipes or not. They are a representation of the unity within the family, how no matter the differences a family that works together is something stronger that the individual.
