UCR City

UCR City, formerly known simply as New California City, is the largest city “built from scratch” in the new world. It is known for having the one of best standards of living in the entirety of the New-World, and has a large population of 30,000 people.

UCR City is the Capital City of the UCR government.

Industry & Trade

UCR City, while not as based around trade as cities like Junction, still has an extremely large trade industry and commerce. Just outside UCR City is the Republic Marketplace, where traders and merchants from all over the region sell things like water, food, lumber, fuel, weapons, ammunition, medicine, scrap, and everything else. Slavery is officially outlawed in UCR, although underground operations are reported to exist. UCR City is also known for its cattle industry, providing much of the meat and leather in California.

History

In the deserts of post-nuclear California, few survived the immediate carnage and chaos of the wasteland. The luckiest survivors were those underground, inside nuclear fallout shelters. The inhabitants of Shelter A4, the ancestors of many of the people of UCR City, were one of these groups. 500 survivors lived in the bunker located far out in the desert, and when enough time had passed and the radiation died down, they emerged to build a new world from the ashes of the old. Eventually, after nearly 2 days of travel, they came across a suitable area to begin rebuilding. A place they came to name New California City.
Using the tools, supplies, and information from their shelter, they were slowly able to build New California City into a self-sufficient town. In the early years, they mainly focused around farming, growing food like corn, cabbage, potatoes, and raising large herds of cattle, and used a large pump system to collect water from an underground aquifer. The people of New California City were obscure and unknown in the early years, only occasionally being used as a stopping point by Junction traders heading south. But as their settlement grew, more caravans and merchants began to stop in the city, bringing it more influence and wealth than ever before. As time went on, the three big cities of Southern California-Junction, New California City, and Lost Angels- decided it would be in their best interest to unite, deciding to create a trade pact in 2172. Finally, in 2174, delegates from all three cities came together and after writing a constitution, officially united, becoming the nation of UCR.
Due to its central location, New California City would officially become the capital of the Republic. The Hall of Congress, Presidential Manor, and Supreme Court Building were all constructed within the city, and UCR City was known for being THE hub of civilization on the West Coast. Renaming itself UCR City, it would be seen as a safe place to settle down, attracting people from many walks of life, including farmers, merchants, tribals, and others.
