New Washington, DC

The settlement of New Washington, D.C. is an extremely isolated, xenophobic, and secluded community. Located near Pyramid Lake in northern Nevada, it is under the control of the Neo-American government, one of the most technologically advanced, and secretive, factions in the Wasteland.

Government

New D.C. is under the control of Neo-America, a fascistic authoritarian regime. Strict laws and punishments are enforced on the citizens of the city-state.

Defences

The city is the most well-defended location in the world. It is surrounded by high electrified fences and walls, with guards and turrets patrolling it at all times. In the unlikely event of the city being invaded, there is an underground fortress that can be used as a last-resort staging ground.

History

In the year 2022, the United States federal government had realized that nuclear war was almost inevitable, and that the majority of their country would not survive the carnage that the apocalypse would bring. Using secretly collected funds, the president and his top officials constructed a large underground fortress so that in the eventuality of nuclear war, the American government could survive and rebuild after the radiation subsided.
On May 3rd, 2029, 2,000 federal officials, military officers and their families relocated to this bunker, and stayed for nearly 150 years. In 2178, they finally emerged, and began the project “Manifest Destiny”-The plan to rebuild the old world. With a population now around 5,000, they began building their new capital from which to spread out. New Washington, D.C. Built like a military base, with spartan barracks and high fences and watch towers, it closely resembles an open air prison. The Neo-American government is known for being extremely authoritarian, with the president holding complete dictatorial power over the civilians. They are also harshly fascist, and militaristic. With the most advanced technology in the entirety of the post-apocalyptic United States, they would have been able to slowly conquer the entire west, and even the entire continent, if not for their low population count. Right now, they simply bid their time, growing their population, developing new and better weapons, and creating alliances with other similarly-minded groups that could help them in their quest of domination.
For the average citizen of New D.C., however, life under the oppressive regime is simple, if dull. Most not-military inhabitants of Neo-America mainly produce food in indoor hydroponics-farms, produce ammunition for soldiers or maintain weaponry.
