Homebrew: Roll with Emphasis
When characters take actions where success seems possible and would be especially adventurous, but exposes the character to great risk, the DM may call for a roll to be made with emphasis. When this happens, the player rolls 2D20, taking the result that is furthest from 10 as the result. In the event of a tie, the lower result is used.
A roll with emphasis increases the likelihood that the roll will be exceptionally good or exceptionally bad.
