Wild Magic
Wild Magic, sometimes called Universal Magic, is the pure undiluted form of Magic present in the Source. It is raw, chaotic and untamed, often operating outside of the structure of conventional Spellcasting and the Schools of Magic.
The standard practice of Spellcasting includes channelling Magic from the Source, this process usually dilutes Wild Magic into a usable fuel for Spells. But undiluted, Wild Magic is extremely dangerous and volatile, as though it has a mind of its own, interacting with creation in unpredictable, and often destructive ways. While Wild Magic is potentially extremely powerful, all recorded attempts to draw on it directly, or control it, have ended in disaster.
Very rarely, across the Planes, and most often within the Land of Faerie, the Source can randomly erupt with a burst of Wild Magic, causing a Wild Magic surge in the nearby area. This often results in a surge of random and unpredictable Magical phenomenon. While it is usually temporary, only lasting a few seconds, Wild Magic surges can range from harmless and inconvenient, to extremely dangerous and destructive.
Innate Wild Magic
While attempts by Mages to access Wild Magic have lead to disaster, in extremely rare cases certain creatures have been recorded become infused with Wild Magic, granting them some form of innate access to Wild Magic. This affliction can sometimes be hereditary.
Those afflicted with innate Wild Magic often have their Spellcasting altered by Wild Magic, with their Spells often producing unpredictable, and often destructive results. This also often causes the afflicted to randomly and uncontrollably surge with Magic, producing random Magical effects around them. This innate access to Wild Magic is usually a death sentence for the affected creature.
Elven children are also often brimming with innate Wild Magic at a young age. While this Magic usually fades with time, even if cultivated, Elven children are often capable of producing miraculous feats of Magic that would take your average Mage years of practice. This phenomenon is largely attributed to the Elves Faeria ancestry, and their connections to the first Mortal Spellcasters.
Land of Faerie
While Wild Magic is usually limited to the Source, it is sometimes found in its untamed form within the Land of Faerie. It is believed that Faerie's connection to Wild Magic is one of the reasons why Magic is so potent in the Plane, and why so much of the Land of the Fae is innately Magical.
