Stygian Oath

A Stygian Oath, sometimes called the Dread Solemn Oath, is the greatest and most dreadful oath that can be made.

Stygian Oaths are enforced by the Goddess Styx, the Arbiter of Oaths and the personification of Hatred and the River Styx.

Any oath sworn on the waters of the River Styx is Divinely binding, even to the Gods, and can not be broken, on the pain of a lifetime of misfortune and eternal damnation within the Dungeons of the Damned.

While the Gods can not die, even they are harshly punished for breaking a Stygian Oath. It is said that Styx has the offending God banished from Olympus for 10 years, where they are shunned and ignored by their fellow Deities until their exile is completed. During this time the God is said to be deprived of their worship and offerings, as well as from Ambrosia and Nectar, forced to suffer in weakness and voicelessness.

Because of the nature of a Stygian Oath they are rarely sworn for risk of unforeseen complications.
