Mephistopheles - The Archduke of Cania
Mephistopheles is the Archdevil of Envy and the Archduke of Cania, the eighth layer of the Nine Hells. He is an ambitious and obsessive devil, determined to usurp Asmodeus and conquer the planes. Mephistopheles is also a master of the arcane arts, he is an exceptionally skilled wizard, specialising in Evocation magic, giving him an edge over his rivals.
Mephistopheles is a brilliantly clever and politically adept individual, it is said that only Asmodeus has ever deceived or thwarted him. Asmodeus is even known to take counsel from Mephistopheles.
While Mephistopheles outwardly presents himself as sophisticated and calm in reality he has an outrageous temper, jealous to the point of hatred. He is also exceptionally arrogant, rarely giving his time to any creatures that he did not deem as worthy of his attention. But if you are deemed worthy Mephistopheles is known to become obsessed. From his pursuit of knowledge and power to his fixation and jealousy of people and entities that had something he didn’t.
Despite his cunning and skill Mephistopheles knows he can’t depose Asmodeus until they make a grave miscalculation, and so Mephistopheles waits for the perfect moment for his chance. Unknown to Mephistopheles, a common joke in the Nine Hells is that “Were Mephistopheles to conquer the Nine Hells, it would take him less than an hour to start wondering why he wasn’t also ruler of Celestia.”
Apperance
Mephistopheles is a masculine presenting humanoid, an incredibly tall and charming figure with red skin, long black hair, cold white eyes, long horns, bat-like wings and a pointed tail. He is commonly dressed in beautiful robes and wields a staff in the shape of a fork.
