Dueling

Dueling is a form of legal combat in most kingdoms across Exorsia. A Dueling challenge is usually made either in response to a slight, to get something or avoid a full scale fight.   A creature may challenge any other individual to a duel, a challenge can alway be declined, but usually with consequence of reputation.   If the target of the challenge is of a skill or condition lesser than yours the challenge is seen as dishonourable and the target is free to decline without shame. If the target is of greater skill or condition then they are inclined to accept or potentially lose face and reputation.   When a creature challenges another to a duel they must set the terms. The terms include, how the duel ends, the time and place or the weapon. It is customary to allow the target of the challenge to choose one of the terms. The target of the challenge may also change the terms in the form of accepting the duel, if the change is unacceptable the challenger may step down and accept the consequences.   A combatant can forfeit at any time during a duel, resulting in their loss. A duel must always be arbitrated by a third party individual who calls when to begin and when the fight ends.

Terms

Here are some examples of dueling terms. The terms may also include the reward for the victor, such as a prize or the surrender of their allies.

To the…

A challenger is expected to name the conditions in which the duel ends.
  • Blood: The duel ends when one of the combatants draws first blood.
  • Death: The duel ends when one of the combatants is dead.
  • Disarm: The duel ends when one of the combatants disarms the other.
  • Floor: The duel ends when one of the combatants knocks the other to the ground.
  • Pain: The duel ends when one of the combatants is heavily wounded.

Weapons

A combatant may select a particular weapon that both combatants must duel with, such as swords, firearms, fisticuffs, or Magic. This is not a necessary term and combatants can forgo this term.

A magic duel, commonly referred to as a Mage Duel, usually revolves around two combatants attempting to outsmart each other and play around each other’s Counterspells.
