Children of Lolth

Officially called Amandil O’Ungol, the Children of Loth are a Theocratic Empire with a citizenship of mostly Dark Elves (Drow). They rule a large portion of the Underdark. The Children of Loth are completely subservient to the Goddess Lolth, following her every direction and moulding their way of life after their Goddess.   They are a cruel, hateful and sadistic people, appeasing their Goddess with torture and violence. The Children of Loth also greatly honour spiders, being the favoured animal of their goddess. The Drow believe it to be a perfect creature and use its symbolism everywhere.   The nation is a matriarchal society, believing that the female form is superior due to it being the form of Lolth. Because of this men are treated as lesser citizens, with limited rights and unable to own land or hold positions of power.   The Children of Loth are also extremely xenophobic believing every other race to be beneath, they are also notorious slavers with almost 10% of their population made up of slaves, they will commonly raid the surface or nearby settlements to capture slaves.   Leader: The High Priestess of Lolth
Heraldry: Red and Purple

Government:

The Children of Lolth are governed by the high priestess of Lolth, and the rest of the priesthood, who commune with Lolth on important decisions and act in her name.    The High Priestess is chosen from the clergy by the Goddess Lolth herself through prophetic dreams. The High Priestess leads the clergy and the government for life or until she loses favour with Lolth.   Settlements under the control of the Children of Lolth are governed by Officiates, military generals appointed by the High Priestess.

Military & Local Guard:

The Children of Lolth are defended by a military force. Every settlement under the control of the nation houses a legion of soldiers under the command of the Officiate, with the majority of soldiers located at the capital.   Also located at the Capital are the Shadowblades, elite assassins that are exclusively commanded by the priesthood.

Religion:

The Children of Lolth worship only the Goddess Lolth, the patron of the Drow, worship of all other Gods are outlawed.   The worship of Lolth is directly tied to the nation's governance with the head of the clergy of Lolth communing with the goddess on all important government decisions.   The Children of Lolth also enforce worship through mandatory religious services and rituals.

Social Hierarchy:

The Children of Lolth have a unique social class system that is structured around a mix of religious devotion and gender.   Holy Class: The highest social class consists of the Priestesses of Loth, members of the clergy of Lolth. Men are excluded from this social class.   Noble Class: The noble class consists of female members of the major Drow houses. These houses are denoted by the fact that members of the house serve as one of the Priestesses of Loth and only members of the major Drow houses can be initiated into the clergy of Lolth. The Drow houses are usually also exceptionally wealthy and own vast amounts of properties, businesses and slaves. Men are excluded from this social class.   Military Class: The military class consists of members of all ranks of the military, with military devotion seen as a religious act. This is the highest social class a man can occupy, but they remain excluded from positions of authority even within the military.   Lower Class: The lower class consists of the majority of the citizens. They range from business owners to labourers.   Slave Class: The lowest social class, consisting of slaves. Slaves have no rights and aren’t considered citizens. They are usually owned by members of the noble or military class, but it is not uncommon for most families to own one to two slaves. Slaves consist almost exclusively of non-drow species, usually people who have been kidnapped or prisoners of war. Slaves are commonly mistreated and worked to death. Female slaves are usually treated better than male ones, and are given better and less lethal jobs.

Legal System & Laws:

All crimes are brought before a member of the Priesthood who judges the accused in the eyes of Lolth, sometimes using evidence provided. Most crimes lead to public execution or slavery.   Crimes against the priesthood or Lolth are taken very seriously, while crimes against men are not.   Common Laws Against: Theft, Trespassing, Tax Avoidance, Property Damage, Kidnapping, Assault, Murder, Treason.   Unique Laws Against: Not Worshipping Lolth, Questioning Lolth or the Priesthood, Men Owning Property.   Alcohol & Drugs: There are no laws around alcohol or drugs.
