The Western States
Still standing for the virtues of old America the Western States continue to be ruled by the remnants of its original government, those places that still stand today only do so through the extreme methods put into play that day. Martial law was put into effect, all military forces were put into effect around the Capital and other major cities, but only those on the western shore of the country. Having gone into a full lock down food was rationed, able bodies were conscripted and the boot of the law closed on the throat of every citizen left.
At first many of these cities stood but over time through conflict, disease and dissertation many states fell. No citizen was permitted to flee while no unregistered person was permitted to enter leaving the place deadlocked for resources and this eventually lead to further death. Nearly five years after initial breakout the Western States opened their borders, requesting aid from neighbors and setting out search parties to reclaim lost objects of significance. This was the birth of the Western Reclamation Institute, a group that still stands today.
While the areas were arid and difficult to survive in this was likely a large reason why the virus didn't spread through the land too far. Added to this were the Cleansing Officers dedicated to destroying potentially infected material which created an intangible barrier the virus struggled to push against and thus this means that the Western States are in an improved state of technological advancement then many of their neighbors.
Washington
The seat of power for the Western States Washington is a political and technological powerhouse, many security and military operations are assisted by Mauke Corporation and because of this housing in Washington is some of the safest around, though housing costs are considerable. Dotted above Seattle are a selection of Mag-stations, large floating platforms and buildings that make up a portion of the areas residential space while industry toils below. The breakdown has caused Mag-station use to increase considerably to the point some are no longer safely anchored and advisement is underway to stop more being built.Oregon
Largely surviving simply due to the presence of its neighbors after the initial outbreak scare had passed Oregon was left minimally attended, this freedom is largely appreciated by many though some attempt to take advantage of this freedom by starting protests and events to work against the Western States government and their martial operations. Hydroelectric generators dot the shores of Oregon, making the place a crucial component to the workings of its surroundings.California
After a latent outbreak large portions of California were lost, the northern parts of the state that remains have set up a large guarding wall between the livable areas and those infected and because of this whlie many distrust the safety of Cali its proximity to a quarantine zone has lead to a large Exocore scene. San Francisco was left a mess even before the Capital Wars when a fault below the city broke, splitting the city. These days buildings and businesses have been built into the ravine itself, making San Francisco as populated underground as it is above.Nevada
Areas of the Nevada desert were simply abandoned, too much maintenance in a time of desperate hoarding. What is left is now heavily industrialized, the once barren earth now home to generators and factories. Las Vegas still stands, though not what it once was if anything the cities illicit activities have only increased.
