Infernari
The Infernari are ancient and malevolent entities that originated not from the world of Aeldoren, but from a realm of chaos beyond the Veil. They entered the world during thea time of silence, a time when the divine Powers had withdrawn and left creation unwatched. It was in this absence of higher order that the boundaries between realities weakened. Through the resulting rift, the Infernari emerged. They were not invaders in the traditional sense. They did not seek to conquer or rule, but to consume and destroy. Their presence was a wound upon the world, a force of unmaking.
Each Infernari was a terror of primordial destruction. Some appeared as beings of living flame, others as shifting masses of ash, molten stone, or burning shadow. Wherever they moved, they brought ruin. Forests were incinerated, mountains split open, and entire regions were swept away in storms of fire and despair. Nature itself recoiled from their touch.
In the face of this devastation, the Dwarves stood as the world’s first and only line of defense. Created by the Powers to be its guardians, they fought bravely against the infernal tide, but their strength alone was not enough. The war consumed the land, stretching across surface and deep places alike. Only when the Powers returned in fury did the tide turn. With divine aid, the Dwarves helped drive the Infernari back, breaking their legions and banishing their remnants.
Yet the Infernari were not wholly destroyed. Some remnants slipped into the dark recesses beneath the earth, hidden but not idle. There, in the most forsaken places, they carved the Shadowdeep — a twisted subterranean realm steeped in darkness and madness. From these depths, they bred corruptions and abominations, their most terrible creation being the Dreadborn. Though the Infernari vanished, their legacy festers still in the deep, a lingering threat to the world of Aeldoren.
