Summer Camp Plan in Excellence | World Anvil
BUILD YOUR OWN WORLD Like what you see? Become the Master of your own Universe!

Summer Camp Plan

The point of this is to push yourself and expanding the world. Winning would be awesome, but it is a bonus not the point; plus there are some freakishly good authors on here, who you probably won't beat...............yet.
Ideal Goal #1: Finish Summer Camp's 30 prompts   Reality Goal #1: 15 prompts written, at least (Second event on World Anvil and first time doing Summer Camp, so getting prompts done will be a challenge for me.)

Ideal Goal #2: Articles with a common theme   Reality Goal #2: Few articles will have a common theme (Limiting myself to one area would provide focus, however, inspiration can strike and give a thousand word article.)

Goal #3: Speak to people (Communicate with other members of the community, speaking in several different channels, and making more online friends.)

Preparation

Setting up tracking tool, continuously adding ideas up till Summer Camp, pre-research/link-dump, communicating on Discord, and inspiration building tools.

Tracking

Testing out a new online tool with Summer Camp, it's called Trello. It will be tracking the Idea Stubs, Key Prompts, Polish and Done.

Idea Stubs

This is just a big list of possible ideas for different prompts and each idea should have a sentence and/or an outline of beats for the prompt. These might not be used, but having a huge list of ideas to pull from; hopefully will help with burn out, inspiration lacking, jump start some articles, and tracking sudden ideas during Summer Camp.

Key Prompts

Instead of addressing 30 prompts and spreading over tiny paragraph articles, keep my focus on only 10 articles at a time as to move them forward to completion. A fresh prompt can replace a completed after 2 out of 10 Key Prompts are written articles.

Polish

Completed articles with formatting issues that need fixing. Although, formatting isn't necessary, it will make your article easier to read thus more like-able. Come to these articles when burned out, or unsure of where to start, as to continue making progress towards your goal.

Done

Submitted articles can be revisited for inspiration boost which mean asking where could this go, and for promotion only. No ego-stroking till after!

Pre-Research & Link-dump

I love research!!!!! It is my bane, for I will drown in that research before a single word touches the page. The point is to have research for the idea stubs and general topics, thus preventing drowning.

The research will be a combination of link-dumping and notes of specific sites. Hopefully, preparing these links will expedite researching and prevent exhaustion caused from reading articles; however, this could fail as the prompts aren't revealed till the competition start. During Summer Camp, limit time spent on research with a timer and outlining what is relevant information before jumping into search engine. Scanning for relevant information, friendly format, and whether images are present will the criteria for research material.

Communication

Communication with other writer will improve your writing as well as being more apart of the community.

Community feedback is a powerful element to an article, because fresh eyes and minds have inquiries. These inquiries can lead to new articles, cleaner format, editing issues, and adding content to the article. Before Summer Camp: Responding to prompts, talking in discord channels, leaving comments & likes on other's works, and participating in Summer Camp Homeworks. During Summer Camp: Talk in Summer Camp channel, post in article review channel, using Twitter, and speaking in other channels on Discord.

Inspiration Building

Inspiration can and will come from many different sources, so never limit yourself.Gathering a big list of inspiration can be helpful as well as hindering for two reasons; the first, it can cause the fear of not being able to make something that "is good" and second it can be a distraction to be lost in the list.
Remind yourself that every piece starts as a blank paper and an abstract idea. Your audience can help with breathing life into the world as their unique imagination contains wonders too.
— It can be good

What content can build inspiration?

Images, music, prompts, other literature works, random generators, one-shot (my personal favorite) and many more things can act as inspiration. These are the initial inspiration, they create the spark or light-bulb moment in your mind. The building component refers to the thoughts and ideas that come from the initial inspiration. The thoughts build off from each other and for me seem like Black-Cat fireworks, or popcorn. You create the spark, suddenly and loudly, they pop one after another after another.
Example of this is my version of Orcs,   Initial Inspiration: Orcs use necromancy in everyday life
Building Inspiration: What are their funerals like? Do different tribe member's have different funerals? Does their corpse hold cultural significance?
