Ecology and Habitats

Gnomes originated from the Feywild and adapted to suit this environment. Illusion magic comes easier to this species due to the need to camouflage. A flurry of quick movement, edges of predatory and poisonous plants blur their form. Who are they? Were they even there to begin with? Forest Gnomes perfected painting one's form with magic. Small lights jump from finger tip to fleece kemp generating the illusion of hazardous flowers. Originating from the Feywilds, these gnomes developed a magic cloak requiring only a bit of fleece and finger movements.
Click-click-click...vvvvvv...ti-ck-tick-tick-tick-tick, metal grinds to life as a chicken pecks the ground. Are there chickens underground? How do they know what a chicken is? Rock Gnomes create mechanical creations from abundant ores found in the mountains they live in. Sounds of these imitation chickens summoned the large maw of a creature, which would have killed thousands of gnome if it hadn't swallowed the chickens. When these gnomes use their mechanical devices to create vibrations then magic and non-magical explosions inside of a creature, who eats ore and is edible...food, show, and easy resources.

Culture and Cultural Heritage

Oral history of gnomes can be confusing to an outsider. They speak of individuals and the unique history attached to the individual then talk about other people who were influenced by, or had any sort of relation to the individual. History in their eyes evolve around individuals and the communities they were connected too.
Social structure is built around interests, which means one individual can be known for different things in different communities. An interest community can grow, or wither, as its members move to different interest communities. A gnome can tap into any number of communities through the knowledge of any other individual gnome. For gnomes are known for 'knowing a person' who could have knowledge about the topic at hand.

Common Customs, Traditions and Rituals

Travel your own journey. Whether to know about every interest, or know deeply about one, gnomes commonly do everything to keep living. They are filled with determination to experience the world. Such determination can lead them to dangerous situations, which is why a tradition of using any material on hand as a prosthetic created the Permutation epidemic among elder gnomes.
