The Anklet of the Innocent

The Bone Shop's Cabinet of Curiosities

Worldanvil February 24 Challenge

The Bone Garden's main attraction is a cabinet of curiosities that is Rerosha's pride and joy. Rerosha has stuffed the polished ebony cabinet with the shop's most valuable items. The cabinet stands behind Rerosha's counter and is magically protected.   The 21 objects detailed below are not for sale. However, if a player helps Rerosha, she could be convinced to part with one of them or at least do a swap.

Description

The anklet is made of silver: it is, in fact, a very thin and simple chain of silver with eleven small but high-quality lapis-lazuli stones set as cabochons at regular intervals around the chain.
The anklet is nothing special on the surface and resembles many anklets given as a present for the birth of a child.

The lapis-lazuli anklets are usually given to baby girls, and similar anklets with jade stones are given to baby boys. Some of them are imbued with protection magic as the anklets are said to be a good luck charm if worn by the infant.

Rarity

This is uncommon item. It is a rarity due to the rather special protection magic it carries. The magic on the item is quite powerful and, to Rerosha's mind, was a sign of her parent's love for her.

History

Rerosha is an orphan. She never really knew her parents and was brought up by her neighbour, the former owner of the Bone Garden, a kind witch named Balanzar. Balanzar rescued Rerosha after her parents died in a city fire that laid to waste most of the Baazar twenty years ago.

Rerosha's parents were clothiers, and their shop burned down with many others. Balanzar was already an old woman when the fire destroyed the Baazar. With the help of J'mon Sa Ord's funds, the Bazaar was rebuilt. Balanzar reopened the Bone Garden and cared for Rerosha, taking her on as an apprentice.

Rerosha is a gifted and powerful witch, although her vocal cords were destroyed in the fire. When Balanzar passed away, Rerosha inherited the shop and now runs it with the help of her sentient 'awakened' parrot, Akil.

The only item Rerosha still has left from her parents is the magical anklet she wore when pulled from the inferno. Balanzar often thought that the anklet had saved Rerosha and made sure the witch could locate the infant quickly before the fire took over the bedroom the child was sleeping in that fateful night.

Significance

The anklet has a street value of 200 gold. However, Rerosha will not part with it for all the riches in the world. It is displayed in the cabinet as a reminder of where she comes from and the parents who loved her.

Properties

The anklet will add a +1 to Constitution when worn as an anklet or a bracelet.

Secret History

A powerful mage, Rerosha's uncle, Caraval made the anklet for his niece. Caraval left Ank'harel under a cloud. The mage (level 16), after being set up and branded a criminal, has a price on his head. Caraval cannot return to Ank'harel and has now settled in Tal'dorei and is part of the Arcana Pansophical .

Could he come back and clear his name? Rerosha is not aware of her uncle's existence. Caraval does not want to endanger his young niece but keeps an eye on her through old contacts.
