Session 14: Welcome to Bazzoxan

General Summary
The Rusty Centaurs have arrived at the Kryn Dynasty fortress-town of Bazzoxan, following the call of a strange figure known as Alyxian. Alyxian, speaking in a vision, had asked them to bring his jewel to the "Heart of Avandra," inside an ancient temple to the Betrayer Gods known as the Betrayers' Rise. Our heroes equally hope to learn more about this jeweled amulet, a Vestige of Divergence known as the Jewel of Three Prayers, by contacting visiting scholars - experts in The Calamity - who have recently arrived in Bazzoxan, for reasons unknown.
After identifying themselves as "friends of the Bright Queen," the Centaurs were led inside the heavy gates of the town, only to find that it was almost immediately under attack by strange, fleshy monstrosities.
Rallying the settlement's defenders, Verin Thelyss made a quick introduction before leaping into the fray. The Centaurs quickly joined him in a prolonged skirmish against dark creatures that seemed to bend the very fabric of reality around their choatic, twisted selves. They were joined in this battle by another new arrival to Bazzoxan, a Lotusden halfling by the name of Emeric who seemed spry beyond his years.
With the gibbering monsters put to rest, Verin quickly explained his role as Taskhand, or governor, of the town and asked the Centaurs to find him later at the Gatehold Barracks before he moved on to direct mop up and recovery operations.
Emeric revealed that he had been in town a week or so and that he was interested in investigating a portion of Betrayers' Rise known as the Queen's Cage. He also confirmed the presence of three travelling scholars, all of them foreigners, who had arrived recently. Although their exact location at the moment is yet to be determined, it seemed like the three had each arrived independently and were not necessarily working in concert. He then led his new comrades-in-arms to the Ready Room, a converted barn that is the closest thing Bazzoxan has for an inn.
