General Summary

The Crusty Centaurs are undertaking a perilous journey from the Xhorhassian fishing village of Jigow to the Kryn Dynasty fortress-town of Bazzoxan, following the call of a strange figure known as Alyxian. Alyxian, speaking in a vision, had asked them to bring his jewel to the "Heart of Avandra," inside an ancient temple to the Betrayer Gods known as the Betrayers' Rise. Our heroes equally hope to learn more about this jeweled amulet, a Vestige of Divergence known as the Jewel of Three Prayers, by contacting visiting scholars - experts in The Calamity - who have recently arrived in Bazzoxan, for reasons unknown. Travelling with the Centaurs are another group of adventurers, erstwhile rivals whose fates have seemingly been joined to those of our heroes by the shared vision of Alyxian.   Leaving behind the grisly scene of a massacred human tribe in the Wastes of Xhorhas, our protagonists continued their dangerous trek south. They evaded a raiding party made up of orcish followers of Gruumsh, the Ruiner, and, after a few more days travel, arrived at the Emerald Loop Caravan Stop, nestled within a forested grove that lay under the welcoming protection of Melora, the Wildmother. There they offered tuberous tribute to Renata and Robur, dryad siblings who are keepers of the grove, and in exchange were plied with wine and more details as to the history of Betrayers' Rise. Plundertooth sought out the company of a local goblin family that were on their annual vacation to Asarius.   The morning after, the troupe parted ways with the other group of adventurers, led by Ayo Jabe, who are off to Rosohna to consult with sages at the Marble Tomes Conservatory, with a plan to then meet up again in Bazzoxan. Pessing on in a northeasterly direction, following the contours of the Penumbra Range mountains into the Barbed Fields, after a few days of uneventful travel, our heroes came upon an odd scene: a winged beast of shadow repeatedly diving at a small herd of mammoths, apparently frustrated with its difficulty in wounding them. Approaching closer, Gorem caught the beast's attention. As Ulfgar turned himself invisible, Plundertooth hid behind some rocks, and Gorem began to carefully sneak back to the road, even the magical assistance of nature did not seem to stop the flying monstrosity from spotting the disappointed half-orc. As it let out a terrifying shriek, the semi-immaterial dragon-like creature began a full dive in his direction.
