Born in Syngorn while the elven city was in the Feywild as a defensive mechanism. Sent to fancier schools because of father's connections in the government & military. Bullied constantly by the elven kids for being the bastard child of "the herbalist who samples her own love potions". Enjoyed studying & any activities that got him out of Syngorn to be away from the other kids his age. Spent a lot of time in the bizarre nature of the Feywild, learning all about the weird things that live there. "Graduated" early to escape the torment more than a serious desire to continue his education formally, leaning towards independent study of the arcane instead. One of his journeys into the Feywild produced an old tome with half-completed spells of dunamancy, which he has been slowly working on completing & now uses as a work journal for his own spell experimentation.
Lan left Syngorn & the Feywild behind in search of other sources of education, hoping to show the elves that they don't know everything when it comes to the arcane arts. Having been repeatedly denied access to Syngorn's official plane shift circles to make the journey back to the Material Plane, he was forced to make a deal with a ______ (fey creature or hag or devil or private elven wizard??) in return for a future favor yet to be determined. His time spent wandering the wilderness of the Fey Wild came into play almost immediately, as he was transported to the forest surrounding the crater where Syngorn once stood, hundreds of miles from any civilization these days. Relying on the assistance of his trusty owl familiar, Lan made his way north over the next few weeks, aiming to get himself closer to civilization & eventually a center of arcane study.
Lan's long term goal is to create his own self-sustaining community, centered around the pillars of enlightenment through the free exchange of all forms of knowledge, freedom of expression & love. A haven primarily for visionaries who wish to further the limitations of sentient ingenuity, yet open to all walks of life without judgment. It is at this new University of Enlightenment that he sees himself surpassing the great Elven sages, relishing the thought of one day having an Elf come & ask to learn from him. (The process of actually causing this to come to pass will likely change his perspective on the world & his place in it, but for now that's the goal.)
