Grala’s Worship

Worship Procedures

The following rituals belong to the Science of Summoning and are commonly known to Grala's priests as well as those worshippers more dedicated to her. Versions exist for all Directions. The most basic form of worship is dedicating the results of a hunt to Grala when you start but while this is a prayer it is not a ritual, see Grala's Favour below for a use of trophies from these hunts.
  • Pursuant Dedicate, Apprentice Procedure, Difficulty 4
After three days eating no flesh, spend three hours in a sweat lodge to dedicate three months to the service of Grala. If the ritual succeeds gain + 1 to Awareness and Create Advantage rolls to prepare ambushes, track or predict prey's behaviour, or set traps; all as the result of good fortune. Eating meat not caught by the hunter themselves immediately ends the effect, as does actively worshipping another god. Last 3 months, Time 3 hours (see above), Resources 2
  • Consuming Hunt, Initiate Procedure, Difficulty 6
Dedicate a specific weapon to hunting a specific individual (which can be the next member of a species the hunter sees sign of) and name the strength of the target the hunter admires, when the hunter kills that target with that weapon they absorb and manifest that strength. Abandoning the hunt (e.g. as too dangerous, or to act towards another goal) angers Grala, the ritual ends and the hunter (and caster, if different) gain the Aspect Spite of Gala for some significant time, which can cause all sorts of problems. The target of the hunt must be reasonably capable of hurting the hunter in order to be valid (no hunting a mouse for stealth, but a wolverine for ferocity makes sense for a mortal hunter). The "strength" is typically a + 2 to an ability the target has at a higher level than the hunter (cannot exceed the targets level, but has the usual effects such as extra language(s) spoken for Linguistics) or a piece of general information known by the target, such as how to navigate their hunting range or the layout of the Manse they lair in. Lasts for (target scale + 1) squared weeks. Time 1 hour, Resources 1
  • Grala's Favour, Adept Procedure, Difficulty 8
After donating trophies of difficult hunts dedicated to Grala at one of her temples, the supplicant spends a night of the new moon in the temple praying for a single favour. If the ritual then succeeds (and given it requires a temple anyway it is often cast by a priest rather than the supplicant) Grala consider the request and assigns a hunt to earn the favour, or rejects the request which is the same as if the ritual failed. The more impressive and numerous the trophies and smaller the favour the easier the hunt, and vice-versa. Refusing or failing the hunt draws Grala's wrath, which often results in a fatal or crippling attack rather than mere bad luck. If the ritual fails the supplicant must return with at least one new trophy before they can retry. Significant but expected favours include learning the weakness of a specific foe, an attack on an enemy by a pack of the hounds of the endless hunt (or by Grala herself in exceptional circumstances) or gaining one of the hounds as a familiar. Lasts one favour, Time 1 night, Resources 3 (plus trophies)
