Photosynthesis & oxygenating

After several million years of single-celled organisms sustaining themselves on either smaller organisms or free-floating compounds, some have adapted to store the The Star's energy in sugars. There would be several different processes and chemicals used for autotrophy (self-nourishing), but the one to change Sighsten the most would be its analogy to chlorophyll. The first to adopt this method were the Utankärna (2700 MYBM), who are similar to cyanobacteria. These Utankärna shall be dubbed Grönutankärna, and proliferated rapidly. They produced oxygen molecules as a byproduct, which is wholly normal for us on Earth. But, for the primal organisms on Sighsten who had not adapted to the highly reactive fluid. It was devastating. The oxygen would react with the membranes and proteins of cells, thereby ruining their careful machineries. Additionally, carbon dioxide that was originally free in the atmosphere would be trapped inside Grönutankärna and later their Medkärna counterparts, the Solätare, who had died and been buried under the sea floor. With less carbon in the atmosphere, the global greenhouse effect would diminish. The planet would then be cooled, maybe even to the point of freezing over entirely in a similar fashion to Snowball Earth
